Seasoned brush started shedding

I have this Col Conk brush. It is broken in and works very well for me. When I got it, the time it took to come to full bloom was accompanied by some shedding. After the brush was broken in, shedding became minimal, 1-2 hair fibers a week. When my brush and razor stand developed problems, I tossed it and started storing the brush bristles up in a cup. The shedding is now at 2-3 bristles per shave. Is my brush care harming my brush?

You might think about cleaning your brush. Admittedly, I'm not as diligent about this as I should be. I'm not sure the storage is as much a part of your shedding as soap caked in the knot causing some brittle hairs.

What do you mean by storing the brush bristles up in a cup? Standing on the handle base with the bristles pointing up, right? If so, that shouldn't harm the brush unless where/how you have it placed is somehow interfering with it fully drying.

Can you tell whether the hairs are coming loose from the knot (i.e. shedding) or breaking off?
