I just came on 3 varieties of a "flip-top" single edge safety razor. Just wondering if they are worth getting. (They are all in pretty rough shape)
One, the top flips up revealing a single edge blade with a heavy back edge. I think this one was a "GEM".
The second appeared to have parts missing and appeared to accept a double-edge blade (but only one edge exposed), but I couldn't identify any posts or tangs to position the blade and keep it from moving around.
The third had a "Valet" double edge blade in it. The Valet appears to have a different design in the holes from the "standard" (Wilkinson, Personna, etc) so I doubt the positioning tangs would align and hold a standard double edge blade. The word "VALET" was punched through the blade and the tangs fit in the "V" and "T".
Anyway, all three are in rough shape and it looks as if it would be hard to find blades. I'm much more interested in straights, just wondering if I should pick these up ... "Just 'cus" ... "just in case I'll kick myself when I find out later that they are valuable"
