Scuffs and scratches

Well, I tripped today and put a nice big scratch in the toe of my boots. Does anyone know how to make them look less beaten?

1. Take them to a cobbler and see what he can do.

2. What I found worked best for scuffed shoes was to VERY lightly remove and smooth the gouged-up leather with some very fine grade sandpaper (400-600 grit) - just enough to take off and smooth in the torn up material but not enough to mess up the surrounding colored leather. Then, a LOT of polishing with a good quality wax - not cream; when I used to do this I used Shinola - nothing better for this type of repair. There may have been better stuff available at the time, but it was unavailable to me. Usually took at least 5 applications, usually more, and lots of hard buffing to get the shoe looking acceptable. This didn't always work, but for me I was pretty successful.

You may not need to use the sandpaper - in fact, first try it without. You can always try that later.

There really is such a thing as Shinola? I guess I don't know ****.

There used to be. It is no longer manufactured. :thumbdown

I've never tried Lincoln polish but I plan to. Kiwi always seemed to be ok but not great. I like the Meltonian shoe cream, but I think you need a wax to do scuff repair properly.
