What's new

SCS avocado oil balm

Don't know if many people have tried this but I have used it the last 3 days.

Not to hate on SCS this is my first time using one of there products and just passing on info about this product.

The smell is deep and manly.
It seems to kick razor burn in the rear.

But I can't use it anymore, it makes me feel like I have fire on my face for like 5 mins. It seems to hurt. This is the most painful AS I've used. Do there other products have a intense tingle?

It's entirely possible that you're allergic to something in the AS. It could also be other things. I see that your a fairly new member here--are you a new wetshaver too? If you're [still] getting nasty razor burn after your shaves, it's hard to say exactly what's going on. Personally I don't think you can really evaluate the quality of AS and the like until your shaves calm down. Just something to think about. I don't care for balms myself--in fact, the only one that I've ever bought and use is SCS Bulgarian Rose. I get great results from it when I bring it out in the winter. Of course, YMMV.

I'm new to the forum but have been wet shaving for over 2 years. I wouldn't call myself a newbie. I pretty much get nick free bbs shave except under my jawline.

I got one small spot of burn on my neck the other day that this stuff took care of no problem. But the tingle was everywhere on my face for 3 to 5 mins.

I had one small spot of burn on my neck the other day. This stuff knocked it out quick. But my whole face tingled very intense for 3 to 5 mins everyday that I've used it.

I'd have to say that something in it doesn't agree with you individually. I've been using the same stuff for the past few days and I love it. It's been second only to Nancy Boy's AS.

One thing I might ask is do you dry your face before applying AS? That has always made the experience much less enjoyable for me.

Yes normally I rinse with cold water , then dry my face, lastly put on the aftershave.

Never been a issue before guess I'll try leaving my face wet once and see what happens.

Sounds to me it's the menthol in the AS (but you say it's like fire?). Some like the effect of menthol (I do), some don't. I have an SCS AS Milk and it does have a good dose of menthol in it.

Try putting a bit on your arm or something...or anywhere you don't shave. If it still burns the same way, you can be assured some ingredient doesn't agree with you.

The Avacado oil balm has very little menthol in it. If I didn't have an ingredients list I never would have guessed it had any. I don't think it's the menthol.

Avocado Oil Aftershave Balm Ingredients: Aqua, Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana). Glycerin, Avocado Oil, Glycol Monostearate, Acrylamide Copolymer, Octyldodecanol, Isopropyl Myristate, Hydrovance (Proprietary Hydroxyethyl Urea), SD Alcohol, Panthenol, Cosmocil CQ (Parabens Free Preservative), Isopropyl Palmitate, Dry Flo (Corn Starch Modified), Allentoin, PEG-20 Glyceryl Stearate, Ceteareth-14, Polysorbate 85, Aloe Vera Extract, Menthol, Polysorbate 20, Iodopropanol Butylcarbonate, Fragrance. It is never leaving my rotation. It helps with the extreme dry cold weather here but we'll see how it does when it hits 110 again in the summer.

A tiny bit is all it needs.

I can't believe that it is only doing this to me! Wow I thought it felt like that for everyone.

Don't feel bad, some great stuff that others like don't agree with some. Also, the balm is a very tiny bit to use. I've been using it everyday for about 2 months now and it's barely made a dent in it.

SCS products are incredible! I'm sorry this particular balm doesn't agree with you. I would suggest getting samples of a few different after shaves to see which you like best. My favorite is the Nutriment gel. It is so mild and soothing that I'm willing to bet it will be really good for you.

I just want to be clear that I had no intent to put down scs products. I just thought people who might be thinking about trying this would want to know how it's performance was. Which seems good for others but just isn't right for my skin.

I also purchased the lavender which I will try today and post my results.

You didn't come across like that, no sweat.

I used the lavender yesterday! WOW! That stuff is great.

I did experience a very small tingle when I first put it on, but it was a enjoyable feeling. I hope everyone else has a little tingle when they first apply it also.

I don't know why the avocado doesn't like me. All I can say is that I must be having a reaction to it.

Send me your info, I will gladly reimburse you if you are not 100% satisfied. Keep in mind, some balms contain a lot of water. I do not water down, please use sparingly. A bottle will last longer than I would like it to. :blushing: You may be happier with a milk or splash. PM me your info.

If the OP isn't happy with the Avacado Oil Balm I'd much rather buy it off him when he reaches the site minimums than see Wendy eat the cost of the product and shipping. The offer stands.

I too would be interested in buying the balm from him and save Wendy the trouble. But this definitely shows what a quality vendor SCS is. I always try to steer people their way. I have nothing but good things to say about SCS.
