What's new

Scored a Fatty... boy am I impressed!

Didn't think I could get as good of a shave out of a DE as I do with an injector (type L)... well at least my ball end Tech didn't shave as well as my type L. Picked up a real sweet eBay Fatboy on a whim as no one else bid on it. Tried it out last night and WOW! :w00t:

I put a Personna blade in it that already had one shave on it, set it to 7 and went on with a WTG pass. Rinsed my face and couldn't believe I already had a DFS. Now, I am cursed with wires growing out of my face and need to do XTG before ATG but figured I'd try ATG next anyway since it did such a good job WTG. Sure enough, it cut right through on the ATG pass on to a quick and easy BBS shave. :thumbup1:

I really can't believe it shaved that well. I normally blow through blades quickly (1.5 shaves on an injector, 2 on a DE) so I was even more impressed that it did this well on a used blade. Now here's the kicker... I use straights and a Rolls in my rotation as well and when I shave with them I tend to have a BBS last much longer than an injector or DE shave. This time? Man it is close... probably only a couple of hours shy of a straight shave but a little better than the Rolls.

Seven is heaven for me  Moral of the story: YMMV definately applies to shaving. Keep trying different things... otherwise you might never come across a nice surprise like this!

I just got a Fatboy last week too. It's in mint/perfect condition so it cost me a bit more than some that you'll find on ebay. I haven't shaved with it yet but I will tomorrow maybe. Congrats on your new shaver.

This is crazy!! You found a Fatboy that nobody bid on, that's madness :w00t:, was it listed under the cheese section or somthing

Yep i find the personna is really good in these too, started on 6, then went to 7, then one day I threw all sense out the window and just went all the way to 9 with no ill effect. 9 is good.

Thanks all :001_smile

Yep, really happy with it. I shaved with it last night which was out of rotation... but I wanted to try it again :biggrin1: Left the same blade in there (which would be the 3rd shave) but it looks like 2 shaves is still the limit for me. Still got BBS but it pulled on a few spots with the stiffer hairs and I got a couple of nicks for the effort.. ah well.

I was surprised I won the auction as I put the bid in as a whim. I guess the higher starting bid price kept people away? At any rate, I was the only bidder :thumbup1:

Fatboy really kicks. First time I actually went to a decent setting I was equally amazed at the first pass carnage (to my WHISKERS, not to my face). Love the Gillette adjustables.

Great shaver, nice heft, I like 7 as well for ATG.

Congrats on a nice pickup! Maybe the Fat Boy market is getting saturated. (Saturated fats?)

Congrats! I rotate razors now, but the Fatboy was my first DE and remains one of my favorites. It consistently delivers great shaves.

And a 350 4-bolt...

I have ditched my new Merkur 34C HD for my Fatboy using Personna or Feather blades. Set on 7 for WTG and then 3 for ATG and she's smooth as - not nick or rash in sight.
Changing to TOBS shaving cream also improved the way the Fatboy slides across the skin.
Cheers

Perfect case of YMMV; the illustrious FatBoy does nothing special for me. I mostly enjoy the aesthetic, but the shave... I could pass.
