Scents from the past

Greetings from the newbie in Idaho. I've always been a fan of what I consider a good smelling mans cologne/aftershave, but have recently found a renewed interest in the subject. There are so many "new" fragrances on the market that I am totally unfamiliar with and I found this site, with all of it's great reviews, while doing Google searchs for information on them.

I tend to lean toward the clean, woodsy or citrus scents and usually avoid the heavy, flowery ones. I was delighted to find that Herbissimo Mountain Juniper was still available and currently have two bottles on order. After reading comments about Clubman's Lime Musk, I ordered a bottle and was pleased with it's smell.

I'll date myself by saying that I've always liked the aroma of Kanon and recently acquired a bottle. It seems to be a little "watered down" from what I remembered, but nonetheless, it still smells good to me.

Many, many years ago, I had a bottle of St. Johns Bay West Indian Bay Lime (with the wicker wrapping) and it was/is one of my alltime favorites. It's only too bad it doesn't have more longevity. I love the crisp, clean smell! One's on the way.

I've just ventured into the Bay Rum world again....and I'm looking forward to it.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you ever tried to formulate you own scent using some of the essential oils available from some of the many outlets? Had any success? There's definitely more to it that meets the eye!:001_unsur

I've played around with blending oils to some moderate success but I've never tried formulating my own scents. That's a bit more of an endeavor trying to get the notes to play out when they're supposed to.
