My newer to me, and otherwise in great shape, JAH Twinworks #17 had little micro-cracks along the edges of the scales. A little bit of sanding along the edges of the scales (~500 grit) and then plastic friendly metal polish cleaned them up nicely.
Cracks are gone, and much of the minor discolouration from the past ~70 years has been removed.
