What's new

Scale material for all the straight restoration artists.

After seeing some of the most unbelievable restorations that have been done by the many artists on this site  I wanted to post a link here for a wood that would make some of the most incredible scales anyone has ever seen. I have several pieces of this wood and I just cant get enough of it. :001_wub: I think you will feel the same once you see it. The wood is a hardwood found in the Pacific northwest and just sanding will polish this wood so nicely that you would think it had some kind of finish on it already. It is very common for this wood to also have burls that are like nothing you have ever seen. This link will take you to a page of the site that shows several pieces of the wood that are probably all from the same tree. You will find that no two pieces of this wood are the same and that is what is so incredible about it.

here is the link. :w00t: :w00t:

I hope you all find this wood as attractive and practical for scales as I think it would be.

Being from my home state, i've seen this and it's utterly gorgeous, it would also make for some serious soap bowls.

Can you imagine Mr Ellis or Ambrose or Ray Man doing a restoration on some really fine looking straight and using this wood for the scales  anyone that is familiar with and has ever seen this wood knows that no two pieces look alike so every set of scales will be totally unique and because of this each restoration would be a one of kind work of art :w00t: :w00t: ... from what I have seen so far from the three I just mentioned everything they do now is already a work of art. As you already pointed out this wood will also make some of the most incredible soap bowls anyone could ever want... Think about it... your perfectly restored straight with scales made from this wood and your new soap bowl is made from a piece of the same stock the scales came from giving you a magnificent custom shaving set  I guess for now I will just have to keep dreaming about having something like this... my current budget doesn't include anything so nice. :crying:
