Sartorial by Penhaligon's Review

Great review, however I disagree with your historical assessment regarding citrus in fragrances as traditional Eau de Cologne, such as 4711, dates back to the 18th century and is classified as an "Citrus Aromatic."

Very good, point. When you're right, you're right.

I love Sartorial. I think it's so unique and complex, but sometimes I catch a whiff and can't help but think of Brut. It doesn't help that my wife tells me that I smell like her grandpa when I have it on. D'oh! He is a classy guy though...

Nice review and characterization of this.

Will be interesting to hear if you get any feedback from Saks. I have local small shop who carries Pen and is very happy to offer samples even small decant. Saks is all about arrogance.

I've got to say though, I've visited other counters at Sak's and had great experiences. I don't think that Sak's was the problem here, I think it was the people at the Penhaligon's counter.

That's because it's a dressed up fougere, like a Brut-ized English Fern update. It's one Penhaligons I don't enjoy. But if I can warm up to Hammam Bouquet, perhaps I can warm to this one too.

Great Video Max, as always. I am heading to England this Summer and will stop by the Penhaligon's store in Covent Garden to smell store samples. I have been hearing so much about them.

they do a great job with their scents, and I've heard that the customer service in the London store is terrific.

Great review. Sartorial is my favorite Pen's scent. Endymion is my second and I'll get a bottle of it someday (I have the cream and aftershave balm already). You mention Castile...... it reminds me alot of Acqua di Parma Colonia with a little more of a floral drydown. A little less masculine, so I'd stick to AdP for myself. Thanks again.... I really have been enjoying your reviews.

Nice review. I've been enjoying your videos too.

I also really enjoy Sartorial. I bought a bottle about a month ago and since then I’d say it’s been the scent I’ve worn most.

I can’t say that Sartorial reminds me too much of Brut. For me YSL Rive Gauche is the scent that most resembles Brut, but I don’t hold that against it, I enjoy Rive Gauche too and whenever I make it my SOTD it gives me a reason to use my Brut AS splash too. :biggrin1:

Incidentally I didn’t have a problem receiving samples from Penhaligon’s. I’m in the UK so perhaps that’s the reason, but I emailed them asking to purchase a sample pack and they replied to say they would send them free; the samples were put in the post that day and I received them the following morning.

I think the customer care quality is just completely different in the UK. But I think the folks who represent Penhaligon's here at Sak's in the US need to be trained by them.

Well thought out review! Thanks for doing it. I look forward to others.
