Saponificio Varesino scents that's not cologne like?

Long overdue to do liking the practicality of creams.

Which SV scent(s) would you say is not cologne like or a dupe of a cologne? To put it in perspective, I ordered a bunch of Stirling samples recently and stayed away from all dupe of cologne scents. Nothing wrong with them but some can be overpowering and/or linger too long.

I am eyeing Argania for starters. Good choice? What else do you recommend?

Thanks!

Good to know, thanks. Are they dupe of existing cologne or cologne-like but SV specific scents?
They aren’t copies, they are just a certain style of scent and quite strong. Not my taste and they’re all a bit Brioni suit and tasseled loafers, to my mind. Like an Italian office sex pest.

But a lot of people like them, so don’t pay attention to my prejudices.

I see. :eek2:

They’re all loosely based on some cologne.
70th Anniversary- acqua di gio
Desert vetiver - terre d’hermes vetiver
Mirto sardegna - adp blu mirto
Opuntia - creed aventus
Tundra artica - adp oud? Ambra?
Morado - boelis panama?
Etc
Etc

Hot damn, ok. Thanks!

Can I suggest you consider MDC? VERY similar cost per gramm, and performance. In my view, the scents and quite different from each other. Rose is lovely and the citrus like lemon!
Good suggestion, and if the OP is looking for a “more essential” scent then Martin de Candre fits the bill beautifully. I’m less a fan of the lemony Agrumes scent, personally, but I love Rose and the Vetyver is a really good, earthy vetiver. They’re all really well made, quite pure scents.

“Loosely based”, though. The SV scents are much more generic men’s cologne overall, though within that you can detect the different ingredients they are based on. Don’t expect them to smell very similar to the fragrances they may be based on - the SV style changes it significantly.

I do hope there will be an SV fan along soon to say I’m talking rubbish and SV scents are the last word in style and good taste. Otherwise you’re only getting a view from someone who doesn’t favour their style of scent. I always tend to like quieter, less complex fragrances.

I like the performance of SV but have not gelled with the scents yet. They are typically strong and cologne like. So far I’ve been through Felce, Cubebe and 70th Anniversary. My most recent acquisition was Dolomiti. This one is milder and the scent is more soapy to me. Pleasantly uncologne like.

Has anyone here tried the Bullgoose Shaving "Asylum" Flying Mango? It's the 4.3 base and at least on paper, the scent sounds different from the rest of the lineup. I love the performance but, at least with the one I owned (Tundra Artica) the scent got tiresome pretty quickly, which wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't so strong. I've been reluctant to try any others. "Mid-tier department store cologne fragrance" is not a style that appeals to me, especially at that price. I'll take a simpler, cleaner MdC scent any day.

Piling on: Felce & Morado (two that I thought might be the least cologne-like) are phenomenal soaps with terrible scents. There is ~$100 laughing at me from the back corner of the shelf right now. Look elsewhere for simple/understated scents.

Didn't know about the Bullgoose option. Eagerly awaiting any input.

Flying Mango is currently the only SV soap that I own, and I plan on ordering another one. The scent to me is fairly mild, I get sort of a peppery, slightly spicy tobacco flower. It's actually quite nice, if they made a splash in this scent, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

You aren't talking rubbish because scent is so subjective, but I shaved with Desert Vetiver this morning and adored every minute of it. The scent is a slightly sweet, bright vetiver that is alledgedly based on TdH Eau Intense Vetiver, but I find it a lot closer to Grey Vetiver or even Guerlain's classic. It is a very stylish, appealing scent for those that enjoy colognes.

Along with Eufros, it is also hands down the best lather I have encountered, so the fact that I love the two scents (DV and Felce) I have is just icing, really.

For the OP, I'd agree that MdC is the obvious choice.
