Safari Help

I have a Lamy Safari I have had for a couple of years. Today I decided to switch to a 1.5 italic nib just to try it out. The old F nib came off easy and I slipped the new on. I decided to change back to the F nib and when I pulled on the italic which was on the pin it was pretty tight. I pulled harder and most of the section of the pen came out. I now cannot get the feeding section of the pen all the way back inside the pen.

Any ideas? I am leaving to go out of town tomorrow and really wanted to take this pen.

There is a locator groove that needs to carefully be aligned if I remember correctly ... it's been a few years.

When it came half way out, in a panic I pushed it back it and now I can't get it out at all or any further in. Any suggestions?

Fully extract it and clean it up, then push it in using some soapy water. Or just push harder using a paper towel for a better grip I guess.

There is indeed a little groove to align. If it's gotten stuck, then I guess it's not quite lined up. If it were me, I'd be trying to get it out rather than push it further in. You might try a little gentle heat to help expand things - perhaps try getting the hot tap really steaming and running the grip section under it for a bit?
When (not if) it slides out nicely check the groove is aligned as you put it back in and make sure to fit the feed without the nib on - worry about fitting the nib once you've sorted the feed.

This is what I am thinking as it looks a little off center from what it should be. I think when I initially pushed it back in I got it stuck. Now I just have to get it unstuck. I already have the nib off and wasn't planning on putting it back on until everything is fitting correctly. I just worry about breaking something when I go to pull the misaligned section back out.

Would it be possible to push with a small down from the inside (against where the converter rests) as there is only about 1cm of feed sticking out

Thanks for all the help. When I get home I am going to wrap a rubber band around what of the section is sticking out to try to get some grip and attempt to pull it out and put it back in aligned.

Update:
I was able to borrow some pliers from the building maintenance folks and a space heater from the office next to mine. It was inserted with the alignment off, which took a great deal of pulling to break free. However, once it was out I held it under running warm water and it slid back in perfect as could be.

Thanks for all the help.

Glad to see you got it all Sorted out Andrew, next time someone needs to swap out a Lamy NIB, you may just be our go to guy now

Swapping the nib is easy. The trouble is I used a Joy nib which fit too tight. In trying to take it off I pulled the feed system out. This scared me so I shoved it back in. In my haste I shoved it in misaligned, which caused it to be stuck.
Typically you should have no problem swapping lamy nibs as they just slide right off.

Good show! I hope the pliers didn't leave a mark.

It might write 'juicier'

No, I grabbed the solid section below the slits in the feed and wrapped it with a rubber band before taking the pliers to it. Everything is back to normal now, no marred up or marked up plastic.
