What's new

Safari 5

No, as that'd require using it. I installed it so Software Update would leave me alone, but I've been using Firefox on my Mac for years.

I have not liked any of Apple's Safari product, ever. There are lots of other options, thankfully.

I didn't mind the previous one, I think I'm going to *try* to download Firefox for Mac tonight. I say try because the internet is spotty where I currently reside.

I have tried firefox and other browsers but I just don't see the need to keep multiple browsers on my mac, I like just having one tool for the job and safari works great - version 5 is fast and trouble free. Can't find anything to complain about IMO.

I agree with you this far. If Apple dropped Safari and replaced it with Firefox tomorrow, I'd be fine. The only reason Safari is on my machine at all is 'cause it comes with the system and it's a bad idea to remove stuff which comes with the system, generally speaking.

I actually prefer Safari to Firefox on my Mac. Firefox app opens soooooo slowly compared to Safari. I like the Top Sites feature (I know, Chrome has this too).

We just got a new Imac a month back. I have looked at Safari and Firefox and for me see not benefit of one over the other. Maybe of you are doing some special things there is a difference but for how I use the internet, I feel they are the same

Actually, teh Suckage is not so bad with the current IE.

OK, every time I type that I gag, just a little.

Quite true. At least at a glance, IE isn't that horrible anymore. I only use it when troubleshooting internet issues on guests computers at the hotel I work at, never as a user myself (Firefox and Chrome are installed on my Windows machines). At least as far as general usability is concerned, IE is very similar to the other two (similar hotkeys and menu options).

It's not enough to make me want to use IE on a regular basis...the fact that it's not as extensible as Chrome or FF is the kicker that makes me want to never switch back to IE.

I bought my mac about 3 years ago. I don't think I have ever used safari on it. I installed firefox the first day and never looked back.

I normally use Safari on my Mac. I like the way the bookmarks synchronise with my iPhone.

I do have Firefox and Internet Explorer on Windows in Virtual Machines if I need them for my university studies.

Not to throw a curve, but has anyone tried Opera 10 for Mac? This is my go-to because you have your browser and mail-handler all in one. There are some real advantages to it's integration.

YMMV
