RR Shave Lube vs. Village Barber

I have the RR lime gel and the Village Barber oil and the balm as well. The RR is a lush gel that provides an ok soap/creamless shave. I would say it is as advertised. The problem with the lime gel is the scent is so strong it borders on a chemical paint thinner smell. Very, very strong and rather unpleasant. If you think in your mind Lime, you mind will find the lime, if you think paint thinner you will smell that. When I am in the mood I use a little as a pre shave, whip up mikes lime and then finish it all off with the RR lime balm for the ultimate lime shave.

The VB oil is not super thick so it rinses of well but I would say as with the RR it is better as a pre-shave with soap. The scent is strong and like incense you would smell at a hippy tie die shop. I would say soaps/creams are a better way to go unless used for a pre shave lube.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the OP was comparing Village Barber Oil to RR's "Shave Lube" and not "Shave Gel". I can't comment on the Village shave oil as I have not tried it. But the shave lube is a white, almost clear like gel. It smells like peppermint and works very well. I find that you need to be generous on the amount that you use. About the size of a quarter or more depending on how much surface you wish to cover. There's not much "After scent" mind you, but as I mentioned- it works very well. YMMV.

Yeah I know - no one responded so I just gave some info on what I had, I would think the two are not too far off.

I just finished a bottle, start to finish, of the RR Pro Lube. I was using it as a preshave and lathering on top of it with my regular soap/cream.

I got approx 60 uses out of it and found it worked well as a preshave product. The scent, as diesel said, is very peppermint and string but natural. I actually wished it was milder scented, as it often over powered the first pass scent from my soap/cream.

I've read a few good things about the VB stuff, but I don't trust the reviews enough to want to buy it for the asking price compared to the RR. I have also read some negative reviews on VB.

i had no intention of using the RR as a shave gel, I purchased it to use as a preshave and am happy with it.
