Rooney: Super vs. Finest

There is probably another thread like this, but I couldn't find it.

I recently had the opportunity to try a 2/1 in Super, and though it whipped up lather like nobody's business, ultimately I found that it just wasn't scrubby enough for me. So my question is, is it worth my while to try the 1/1 or the 3/1 in Finest? Or would the difference be negligible? For reference, I love the feel of the 2-band PJ2, but would like something a little smaller. Should I skip the Rooneys altogether and go with a custom-made Shavemac? I'm thinking 18mm or 19mm with 45mm loft. But should I go Finest for more backbone, or D01 for more density? Decisions, decisions.

I really like my 1/1 in Finest. I haven't tried the 2/1 Super to be able to compare, but I do have the 1/1 and 3/1 in Super and they would be much firmer than the 2/1. The Finest would definitely be scrubbier.

You want scrubby? Get yourself a Rooney Finest. In my opinion, the difference between the Super and Finest is very noticeable. The Rooney Supers are pretty darn soft after they are broken in. However, the Rooney Finests are packed so densely and have such an incredible resilience that have a srubby feel to them, despite the soft tips.

I don't know how to compare the Rooney Finest to the Simpson 2-banders, because I have a Persian Jar that is somewhat scrubby (not as much as the Rooney Finest) and Tulip that has the softest tips of any brush I have ever owned. I was quite surprised to find out that these Simpsons were so different.

I picked up a 3/1 in finest. I am enjoying it. I figured I should get one before they are non exisistent. That could be just my way of telling myself it was ok to spend that kind of money on a shaving brush. However, I do like the way it feels, soft yet scrubby. I did like the size of my 1/1 in Super. If I had a regret it might be that I don't have a 1/1 in finest. yet.

I think I have liked the finest more with the soaps I have used. The super did an ok job, but the finest just seems like a beast. If it was creams and face lathering the 1/1 super was excellent.

I think Simpsons might be next years tour de brushe for me.

Shavemac D01 is really great, but if you're looking for something scrubbier, a Rooney in Finest definitely has the most backbone of any brush I've ever tried
