Rooney Heritage and Shavemac D01 Three band

Thinking about a new brush. I have some questions about these two types of knots and hair. Would love to here some comparison comments. I am considering the heritage and think I know or have an idea what the brush would fell and perform like. From looking and reading I think it may compare to a Thater 2 band or the M&F 2 band, but have no idea of the facts. I would also like to know how the Heritage (current offerings) compare to the D01 three band? Would be buying either the 22mm or 24mm knot size and would like to here about the ideal loft setting for the D01, if you have specs for fan and bulb please specify.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Personally I have several Rooney heritage hair brushes. Both are 2xl size, which I think is 28mm knot and 47mm loft height. I also have the M&F "Chief" brush with 2 band hair along with the TSN LE by Shavemac which has a D01 3 dand silvertip with 23mm knot set at approx 50mm loft.

I can't comment on Thater 2 band but have heard that as soft and lovely as they are they don't have the same backbone as Rooney or Shavemac.

Yu can't really go wrong with either tbh but in my opinion I prefer the heritage hair and that's the brush out of the pair I reach for much more regularly.
I exclusively face lather and the feel of heritage hair is just spot on, lovely scrub, soft as a pillow with plenty of backbone and no scritch whatsoever.

Hope this helps.

I can't compare a Rooney Heritage to a 3-band D01, but I can compare it to a 2-band D01. The Rooney Heritage 2-band will be much softer out of the box. Rooney and M&F are easily my favorite brand of brushes. The D01 2-band will make easy work out of any product you use it with. This thing just tears through soaps. I have mine set at a short loft, which I probably wouldn't do again. The bristles in a D01 2-band have more backbone than any other brush I have ever used. With that being said, there is some scritch. Apparently they break in at some point, but I am still waiting for mine to do so. It seems to have gotten softer, but not by a whole lot. I felt a well respected member's D01 2-band and it was quite a bit softer than mine, but he told me it took him a very long time to break in and that he almost gave up on it. With Shavemac D01 2-band you can get away with a 2:1 loft ratio or higher, but with Rooney I would stick with 2:1, not that you have much say in the matter.

That is right Nick that is why I am keeping the D01 2 band out off my consideration, but I thank you for the comments on that knot to reaffirm my thinking.

I would like to here some comments about the D01 3 band loft settings in both bulb and fan for a 22mm knot. Can I go 2:1 in bulb? I know I would with a fan if it would flow.

I also prefer the Heritage Stubby 2, either regular or XL over the D0-1 3-band, but not by much...especially considering the price differential. A 23-24 mm D0-1 knot set at no more than 48 mm loft will give you a wonderfully soft feel along with very good backbone. I love them both.

I would go to Shavemac and type 'expert' in the search window. Up comes a customizing palate that allows you to choose your hair type, size, loft, handle, etc. Give it a shot.

I would pass on the D0-1 2-band for now as it is quite a different beast.

Would 46mm be to low in the 23-24 fan D01 3 band? If I go bulb I will stay at 48. I like a notch lower for a fan, but i only know this as a fact in the finest grade.

I used the 'expert' form to order a Shavemac Finest 23mm/52mm Bulb about 2 months ago. They delivered it to me in about a week and a half. This is an excellent service; highly recommended.
