Rooney Badger Grading

From what I can see from various websites Rooney grade their Super Badger as superior to Silvertip. I always thought Super was one grade below Silvertip. Am I reading all this wrong or do Rooney grade their brushes differently?

First off, every manufacturer names and grades hair differently. "Best", "Silvertip", "Super Silvertip", "Finest", etc all mean different things to different brush makers.

I lifted the following text from Vintage Blades

Produced in five grades of badger hair: 1-Pure, 2-Best, 3-Silvertip, 4-Super Silvertip, & 5-Finest, Vintage Blades has chosen to carry those grades of Rooney brushes which we feel are most representative of the Rooney line, yet still offer our customers the opportunity to own one of the most revered English brushes available today. Our Rooney grades are:

Grade 4 - Super Silvertip Badger or "Super": Silvertip is hair that is picked only from the back of the badger. It is the softest of the hairs on the badger’s body. It gets its name from the characteristic light gray, or "silver" tips rising from the distinctive dark band on the hair. The Super Silvertip, or "Super", is re-dressed, or re-sorted silvertip that is re-graded in England. Any short or twisted hairs are removed, leaving the hair feeling softer and giving the brush a lighter appearance.

Grade 5 - Finest Badger or "Finest": This is Rooney's top grade. This finest of hair is picked from the back of a rare breed of a long haired species of badger, only found in more remote areas of China. The hair can be almost white in color. These brushes are firm at the base, yet incredibility soft at the tips. Viewed by many as the “Ultimate” in shaving brushes available today.

Thanks - I really should explore this site more.

I guess if I want the equivalent of a Vulfix Super in a Rooney, I would go for the Rooney Best Badger?
