Roger Waters - The Wall

Concert is tonight, really looking forward to this one. I saw him a year ago or so, and it was a great show.

However...

It might just be me but it really burns me that most artists now charge about $100 for a seat. I remember going to tons of concerts in my teens and we could buy a nosebleed seat for $15-$20. I understand inflation, but really? I'd love to see more shows, but at these prices my budget just really can't afford it. Pity.

I recall seeing all four shows at the Nassau Coliseum in 1980, all within the first ten rows including second and fourth row dead center. I probably paid a lot less for the lot than you'd pay for a single seat in the nosebleed section today.

Ticket prices are ridiculous today for some of the big name acts. I hang on to old concert tickets. I recently came across a Bruce Springsteen ticket I had from 1985. It was a general admission ticket for $25. I recall that show lasting for 2.5 to 3 hours, and he puts on one helluva show. I checked an inflation calculator and in 2012 dollars that is $49. You won't see many big name acts today for that price!

I remember a few years ago Madonna was charging up to $300 for a ticket. I suppose the theory is that her fans are getting older and have accumulated enough money that lots of them can afford to pay high prices. Mind you, I wouldn't pay $3 to hear her.

Oh don't get me started on ticket prices.
I just paid $90 (including taxes and other fees) for Stone Temple Pilots.

I really want to see them and I'm thrilled to be going, but that's a lot of money.

She should pay me to see her. Especially if she's going to be lip syncing (almost 100% sure she would be).

Sadly, I haven't cared for Pink Floyd or Roger Waters as much since they split apart. Just like Van Halen when DLR left; neither are as good apart as they were together.

I agree, but I'd chalk it up more to their being old farts than the parting of ways. Waters did compose his greatest work after the split, Amused to Death.

I think since there is no more money in CD's, what with the illegal downloads and cheap single track sales on iTunes, artists have to make their money somewhere.

IMO- In some ways it is better to give the money directly to the artist for watching them live than paying 18.00 for a CD where the majority of that goes to the Label.

Also the older acts seem to command more money, like Journey, Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, where they get very little money from their old albums, etc. A recent concert for Foster the People was like 35.00.

Gilmour's On an Island was pretty damn good, too. Don't forget The Division Bell, either

For me, it was rather interesting to see how capable these two were on their own. Geniuses, the both of them.

I rarely attend concerts these days because of the ticket prices. There simply isn't someone that I want to see that badly. But there must be plenty of people who do if they are filling seats at those prices.

Liar!

All four shows, Pink Floyd, front row section, in the 80's...

You were so out of your mind high, I doubt you recall much other than what color the music was coming out of the speakers while your face melted, nevermind what the ticket prices were!

Don't even try and deny it!

Well, in all fairness it was one hell of a good show. The stage stretched across the length of a Major League baseball field, and surprisingly the sound was really good. Glad I went, but I certainly won't be seeing him again.

That's one thing that I have in common with Madonna... neither of has ever sang at the Super Bowl.

Maybe she realizes that $300 is overpriced and that's why she was flashing her audience last week.

I heard it was $600 if she didn't flash.

My girlfriend and I were just talking recently about The Wall shows... as much as I like Roger Waters, I think I would be more excited if he produced some new material rather than seeing The Wall live, at this point in my life. I agree with Ouch, in that Amused to Death is his best material. I think he has a lot to say, and I wish he would make a new album.

That's because you're a very sophiticated, erudite, and intelligent person. :tongue_sm
