Wow...never since baseball like this...soooo cool...'Go Bananas'.
Story by Andrew Holleran - MSN - 10 Mar 24
"Roger Clemens, 61, hasn't pitched [never too old] in the MLB since the 2007 season. But on Saturday night, the seven-time Cy Young award winner took the mound in Houston.
The former Red Sox, Blue Jays, Yankees and Astros great pitched for the Savannah Bananas during their game in Houston on Saturday evening.
Clemens took the mound in the top of the second inning. The batter worked the count full to 3-2, before grounding out to Clemens.
It was a pretty cool moment.
"7x Cy Young Award Winner, Roger Clemens, takes the mound for the Savannah Bananas at Minute Maid Park," the Bananas announced on Saturday night".
The Bananas, who are kind of like the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball, are currently on a nationwide tour.
They play typical baseball, however, their games feature some special rules, including: "a two-hour time limit on games, no bunting, batters having the option of trying to steal first, no stepping out of the box, no mound visits, and a scoring system that awards a point to the team that puts up the most runs each inning".
Perhaps we'll see more retired Major League Baseball stars taking the mound or the field for the Bananas in the games to come".
