I was saddened by the news though 84 years is a pretty good run. I thought Andy Williams was somewhat of a national treasure if only for his Christmas specials. I thought they always had a very warm, timeless appeal which really captured the spirit of the season. Despite knowing better, it's people like this that seem to have a certain immortality due in no small part to these holiday specials. It seems like they will be around forever and when we hear of their passing it's a vivid reminder that we all are just human, that time is passing and that we are or are coming closer to that older generation who are next in line.
The man had a beautiful voice. It was the old crooners who made me realise English is the most beautiful language in the world for singing. i know most people would pick Johnny Mathis but i think Andy Williams' version of The Most Wonderful Time of the Year was the best out there. Deano, Perry Como, Frankie, Bing, and now Andy. Man, those guys defined a generation or three.
