I have been experimenting with my Rex Ambassador to get a nick and scrape free shave. My beard is fine and thin and I need to shave maybe every three days. I was not getting what I wanted at the recommended 3-4 settings, so decided to use a new Dovo Platinum and set the razor at 1. Magic. I got a perfect shave, no sting from alum. For those unhappy with the Rex, the 1 setting may be the answer. A little fussy to get the blade in but once assembled, it is maybe better than my Gibbs.

I usually wouldn't recommend friends to get into Rex Ambassador from 3or4.
This razor starts from the front exposure, giving the user a wider area of effectiveness, so its center number will also be more aggressive than what the average person is used to.
If the user starts with a lower number and gradually increases the number with use, it will be easier to realize that the Rex Ambassador is a very smooth and excellent razor.

Did 2 passes with RA setting 2 this morning using a new Slver Star blade.
DFS. No problems whatsoever.
I agree if using Platinum blades maybe setting 1.
I don't use Platinum blades often the SS ones work better for me.

My usual setting is 4, sometimes for the third pass I go down to 2.5.
I've found that 3.5 for the first pass, dropping down to 2.5 for the second, is just right for me. I tried this setting with a Rex Platinum blade recently and had an absolutely outstanding shave.
