Review Of All 3 Captain's Choice Aftershaves

Thanks for reviewing these. I have the Bay Rum and enjoy it very much. I'm not terribly into limes but I kind of want to try it. Cat 'o' Nine Tails is most definitely on my short list though.

I had heard very good things about Captain's Choice, so I bought a bottle of the regular Bay Rum and the Lime. I must say, however, that I'm under-whelmed by both of them. They do the job adequately, but I haven't not experienced the complexity or depth the reviewer waxes so eloquently about. Perhaps it's the lack of cloves in the Bay Rum that I notice. As concerns the Lime, I find the scent peculiar, although I do detect lime. Although I wouldn't say that either is unusable, I am disappointed.

Nice review, Max. You stated that CO9T is your favorite AS- have you tried Speick yet?

i haven't tried the CC lime, but I thought the regular CC actually had more burn than the CO9T. Love CC and agree it's an excellent product whichever type the user prefers.

You know, I actually have not tried the Speick AS. I have their cream though and I do like that. I've also used their deodorant which I am quite fond of. Do you like the Speick balm or splash?

I prefer splashes in general, and cannot recommend Speick AS lotion (splash) enough. Very healing with an intoxicating scent which fades fast enough not to interfere with your edt/ cologne (which I think if you use CC, it may interfere with a cologne/edt). Speick also sells individual saple packs, which pasteurs may have or perhaps you could recommend they get.

Speick and CC are the only 2 AS's I've consistently recommended, in that order. Speick also makes an edt, which I really like (and an edc- which I cannot stand).

Been enjoying a bottle of Co9T. Now I am going to have to go on a road trip to Menessentials to give the lime a try. Nice review and of the Bay Rums I have tried, I must agree Co9T is tops.

I like the Bay Rum, but at first it smelled like carrot juice! I've gotten to where I like it and the nice little sting you get with it though. Cat of 9 Tails is on my list as well!

Anyone have a comparison on the burn levels between the Co9T and Pinaud VIBR? I'm starting to really dig the heat on the VIBR, but don't think the smell is amazing...wondering if the Co9T is comparable :bayrum2:

I have the VIBR and I like it, don't get me wrong. But these are richer and have much more depth. On my face at least, the heat on Co9t is leagues more intense than VIBR.

Love 'em all. If the Captain made one named "Purulent Pus," I'd buy it, confident that I was getting the best Purulent Pus AS available, and one that would treat my skin right. :wink2:

Thanks Max! I already have the regular CC BR in my rotation so I understand what you're referring to by "depth"...the CC is a household favorite, the VIBR not so much. Looking forward to getting a bottle of the Cat o' Nine Tails in the future!

I have all 3 of the Captain's scents and will continue to use these on an almost daily basis. They all 3 have their great qualities, the Co9T has a nice heating quality, the original CC has more burn and a stronger scent that lasts longer for me, and the Lime is wonderful to start on a warm day- it's quite refreshing. Even if I'm adding other scents, colognes, ASB- I still have a splash or two of Captain products.

I agree with Maximillian that Co9T is the best aftershave I've ever used. I'll switch off to others now and then because (a) it's good to vary things up sometimes and (b) I've got several aftershaves I need to use up. But then when I come back to the Co9T and splash it on, all I can say is "Damn, but that's one fine aftershave!" And then wonder why I bother with anything else.

I stopped by the Pasteur Pharmacy to check out the Bay Rum. I used the testers for that scent and the Co9T, one spritz on each arm. I wound up getting the bay rum, but as I went through my day I found myself inadvertently giving the arm with the Co9T a smell. Now, I know that tomorrow I'm going to go back and pick up a bottle of that one too.
