Restoration question/advice

Couple of Questions for those with experience with using a TGN silvertip grade A. This is my first attempt; I am using a Ever-Ready 400 handle from a brush my dad had from back in the day. It seems to be a relativley short handle (52 mm), I have it drilled out and refilled to allow for the knot to sit into the handle 16-17 mm. I ordered a 20mm knot because the knot hole on the handle is about 21mm. Since ordering (haven't recieved yet) I've done some reading trying to determine what loft to set it at and I've become concerned that I maybe should have ordered an 18mm instead. So the questions I have are:
- I am going to have a problem trying to set this size knot this far into the handle?

-if I set it as proposed it would have a loft of 50-52mm, does that seem appropriate for this size handle?

-I prefer soaps and face lathering, would this seem like a good set up.

Any advice/help would be appreciated, if need be I am willing to order a different knot or fill it in more to increase loft.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

I would not worry about ordering the 20, it should make for a great brush.

I personally would set it lower than 50-52....I would go more for 45-46 on that Silvertip.

Since you filled the base, you can just drill it out a bit more if you choose to set it lower.

Many others have set this silvertip around 50mm and like it...so your personal preference does apply here.

I have the 18mm GradeA silvertip set at 42 and it is a wonder of a brush for face lathering with soaps...I could easily have set it at 45-46 and had a great brush too...so you are definitely close with were you have this handle.

Drop the knot in when it arrives and see how it looks and feels.

Like I said, personally I never want a brush in the 50mm zone for loft, but that is really subjective.

Thanks, I'm glad you think this size knot won't be a problem. I hadn't even considered setting it even lower, now you've got me wondering.
