Replating a Gold Gillette

Anyone on the forums that can replate a Gold Gillette NEW with a gold plating? Also, what would the pricing be?

You can have them replated in Norton Mass at Reliable Electroplating, 508 222 0620, ask for Dale the owner. They ship all over, it is a professional facility, not some guy sitting in the living room with a beer and a toy plating machine. I have had both nickel supers and gold aristocrats plated there. For the gold, you want to soak it overnight in Acetone before you send it to remove the lacquer and after you take it out of the acetone, wash it right away in warm soapy water. You can see pics of the razor I had done on this site if you go to about page 6, posted on the 7th of Aug. under replated razor pics. It was about $25 to to do this one. The problem with the home do it yourself kits is that they are not very powerful so the plating is not as uniform or as thick and will not last so long. This process is the same as the original plating of the razors, they are plated in one piece, without taking apart, just like they were back then, not a bad deal good luck bc

do i need to take it apart to do the acetone soak? Also...I guess I'd have to ask them but if you can answer....can they replate a piece of the razor? I might have a spare NEW head that needs replating

I emailed them and got no response. Mentioned I was a B&Ber as well.

Is it better to call Dale at that number?

I think it's better to just find a razor that doesn't need to be replated.

I also sent Dale several emails and got no response. :thumbdown

Dale at Reliable is an old fashioned telephone type of guy. As long as you call during business hours. He does 24 carat gold plating as well as silver, nickel, rhodium. His main plating products are firearms. And he has quite a bit of experience with razors.

Then he shouldn't list an email address in his 'contact us' section.

It's not always convenient for potential customers to call during HIS business hours, so we send an email instead. Ignoring email inquiries isn't "old fashioned", it's rude and bad business.
