removing knot with goo gone

I am about to do my first brush restoration and had a thought.what if I left the knot hairs long ,drilled out just the center and put goo gone in the center.then let it soak a while.I would think the goo gone would break up the glue and do alot of the work for me?then just grab the brush hair and pull.that's why I would leave the hair long.what do you guys think?

I have never tried that but I would be interested in your findings. I wouldnt do it on a brush you want to keep just in case something goes wrong.

Goo Gone can react with other items as well as glue (such as old plastics). I agree with Matt, test it on a brush that is not important in case of issues. Good fortune!

Goo Gone will damage acrylic. Most other non-acrylic plastics are safe.

I doubt it will work, as Goo Gone need to penetrate deeply. How far it will penetrate depends on how well the two materials in the handle are bonded. If it does work, it will take a long, long time of soaking.

Even using Goo Gone on tape residual. . .I've had to work the area to remove the old tape glue. Then you'll have to ensure the surfaces are totally (and I mean TOTALLY) free of the Goo Gone, as it's a citrus oil product and can/will effect the bonding of adhesives later.

I think there are much easier ways of doing it.
