Remove the "Red" Tip

I know this may upset some pursuits but I think my Gillette "Red Tip" Super Speed would look great without the red paint.

It is a handsome looking razor which would look better without the red paint IMHO.

Any ideas on how to remove the paint gently?

Thanks

If there are any traces of paint left after the lacquer thinner you can remove them with a brass bristle brush. Brass is softer than nickel and won't harm the plating as long as you don't scrub for an extended period of time.

It's your razor, but there is a part of me that thinks taking the paint off is akin to putting ketchup on a hot dog.

Go for it and post pics!

I wouldn't use anything abrasive that could cause micro scratches on the tip.

Use paint remover chemicals that won't damage the razor.

You can always paint it back anyway.

Maybe even make it a purple tip.

1. Get a crockpot (cheap at Goodwill!)

2. Add razor

3. Cover with water

4. Add 1/4 cup liquid laundry detergent

5. "Cook" on middle setting overnight

I'm the opposite... I love the red tip - If I wanted to restore the razor to its original look ... what type of paint should i use on that red tip to make it look new?

The code of the West says you should not remove the red, or any other paint from any original Gillette razor. It will wear off fast enough anyway. There are razor owners that ponder how to repaint their razors without hurting any collection value. Don't be another knucklehead.

With that being said, it's your razor. You can do anything you want with it.
Don't be suprised if the Gillette God's put a hex on you and you start getting razor bumps or worse.

It's your razor. Do as you wish with it.
Bear in mind that if you were ever going to sell it, especially here, it may decrease its ability to sell.

I'll trade you two flare tip superspeeds for your redtip. That way you get a razor(actually two) with no paint, just like you want, and I get a red tip. No need to anger the Gillette gods.

Cream of Red Tip Gillette soup! Tasty!

Well, methinks there is another for SWMBO to get irritated about small appliances leaving the house and making it's way to the garage....Sounds like a good way to clean quite a few small metal parts!

I have no intention of selling it.

It is one of the best razors that I own.

Just think it would look great without that tacky (Krylon International Harvester Red) tip on it.
