Reliable Electroplating: Gillette Adjustables (Fatboy & Slim)

I just picked up my Gillette Fatboy & Slim from Reliable Electroplating earlier this week. Their work came out excellent (even better than I anticipated). I had seen some pictures of other customers where the numbers come out a bit blurry or not quite as crisp (post plating). I inquired about this when dropping them off, and was told that they'd try to do their best with the numbers. Well, they did a very nice job indeed. I can tell that they paid close attention to not rounding off the numbers. I have touched up the numbers with some black paint. I'm having a bit of trouble re-doing the red paint on the piece above the numbers. I did a decent job on the slim, but the fatboy will require another shot at it.

I had the Fatboy plated in Rhodium, and the slim done in Gold (in honor of the James Bond movie "Goldfinger", since Sean Connery uses the Gillette Slim in that movie). I took the pictures with my iPhone, so unfortunately they're not the best quality (neither is the lighting). It should give you a general sense of how these came out though. They look even better in person...

Nice!
The spring on slims was always originally black. Gold or nickel plated both had black springs. The red looks good though.

Seeing this never gets old! Looks like they did a great job. We're lucky to have access to a few great replating services.

I have a Slim that has some brassing on the handle, I think it might be my first replate candidate.

Thanks for all the comments. Good to know about the spring color being black, not red on the originals.

With regards to the razor color in the movie, I know that it was the typical nickel finish. My thought is that the gold finish is what would have happened if Mr. Goldfinger ever got his hands on the razor..!

Another great job from Reliable. My Fatboy done in Rhodium was so shiny I couldn't believe my eyes. Changing it from the original Nickel which had some brassing to Rhodium was exceptional.

Outstanding! Those razors look great. I'm holding off on re-plating a Fatboy but every time I see a post like this, well....
