Red wine and cognac?

So, one of my house mates was in Lyon, France, this summer and has been regaling us with the merits of a drink of red wine, cognac, and who knows what else blended together. Has anyone heard of this?

Sorry, all, just realized I posted this in "the cafe" and not "the speakeasy". I was thinking about the Euro version of a cafe, I guess.

That's what it sounds like to me. Most of the sangria recipes I can think of call for brandy too, so it might be a local variation.
