Red Dot

I was wondering if the "red dot" on Fat Boy razors carries any significance? If so, what is it? I have seen this dot on some Fat Boy razors but not on others. Help please!

My understanding is that the Red Dot was one of the prototypes, thus relatively rare. I am sure a real expert will happen along shortly if I have it mixed up.

Right, Gary - quite rare.

The Red Dot Fat Boy was only a prototype manufactured in 1958 and not widely sold but obtained through a test marketing plan. The basic mechanical design of the Red Dot FB served as the basis for the Toggle, which is identical in terms of the adjustment mechanism. If a Fat Boy is a Jeep, the Red Dot (or Toggle) is a Sherman tank - solid as a rock and made with much higher precision.

Thanks for the info. Where is the red dot located on the razor? Anyone have pics or a link to pics?

Forgive my first post for saying I have seen red dots on some razors. It these are rare, then the red that I see on the razors is probably not the same thing.

Here's a close-up of my Toggle. I'm not lucky enough to have a Red Dot Fat Boy, but it's the same on that razor. Note the red dot above the "5" on the adjustment dial. On a standard Fat Boy, there's an open slot in the barrel with a reddish bar.
