Well...I picked up the Parker 61 that I posted about the other day. It looked good and I snagged it for $31.50. The nib tines were misaligned and it was scratchy. As soon as I tried to align the nibs, the iridium broke off. I tried the alignment as I have done with all of my other pens. I wasn't ham-fisting it or anything. Anyway, my good purchase price (thanks for the advice to those who responded, btw) just got more expensive. The pen is in really nice shape otherwise. So, I've never owned a 61, and I understand that removing the hood is best left to professionals. I'm pretty handy with pens, but I don't want to break it. I'm open to suggestions if you have advice regarding doing the work myself. I also have a plunger-fill Shaeffer that I'd like to get rebuilt. What type of pen? What needs to be done?
I think replacing the nib makes more sense. NOS 61 nibs are available for around $25. Once the hood is off, the replacement is simple. I just need to decide if I want to try to remove the hood myself or send it to someone.Wow, good luck with getting that back up and running!
Is it Greg Minushkin (sp?) who is known for re-tipping Parker nibs?
