What's new

Recommend me a watch brand

I'd like to get a new watch. Something nicer than the Timex I'm sporting.

Can you recommend me a moderately priced watch, or brand. I'd like something that draws peoples attention and says "hey this guy is not as shabby as you might think", but won't break the bank.

For the price range you seem to be looking for (I am assuming $300 or so) consider Seiko and Citizen and Hamilton and Christopher Ward, Archamede and Swiss made Invicta's.

Hamilton or Tissot for looking like you're worth more than you are. Those are probably the only two I would presonally consider for under $1000. Maybe a citizen, too.

+1 on the Christopher Ward. I just got their C5 Malvern Aviator (black face, automatic movement) and it's an awesome watch.

Obviously it depends on your budget, what might break one bank may not break another.

I have been very happy with my Omega SMP. It is quite a few years old now, has never been serviced, and is still running as well as it did when new. And that is my beater watch, so it has been through a lot and not babied. The only thing to go wrong was a pin fell out of the band. An easy repair but I decided to replace the band with a Maratec one and now it is even comfier to wear!

Just saw the Tissot Men's T17.1.586.52 PRC 200 Chronograph Watch and I really like the look of it.

It's a little over the top. Kinda what I'm looking for. Thanks

Yep I have the Tissot PRC 200 Chrono. Nice thick and manly watch. I get tons of complements and it'll look good with a variety of strap styles. I have the black dial. It's one of the cheaper Swiss watches, pretty good value for the money compared to the others.

I too would recommend a Seiko. I have had one of their Sport 150 models since 1992, and it still only gains 2-3 seconds per week. The gold/stainless combination looks good with just about any clothes too.

It has to be stainless steel for me. Gold never looked right on me. Also I already have a couple stainless steel rings it should match. :biggrin1:

Hamilton is a good brand that I can recommend. The higher end Seikos are nice as well. I have a few Tissot watches and can endorse them too.

Try Seiya-Japan for fantastic Japan only Seiko and Citizen watches. Tissot, Hamilton and Oris are great values and Swiss. Try Watchseller.com for a very reliable dealer in used watches or Timezone.com for a sales forum-just use all the usual care there. Christopher Wards are now Swiss made and very handsome-look like more money than they are. Lastly, a bit of an offbeat choice is Sea-Gull (google for the sources), Chinese but high quality and a lot of watch for the money-look great also.
