What's new

recommend me a shaving soap please

I need a really moisturising and slick soap. Please recommend one for me. So far I have tried erasmic and Mitchell's Wool Fat. Erasmic was ok but a little drying. MWF though, I just couldn't get a good lather no matter what method I tried (maybe it is just the water here)

No matter what soap you try, the chemical balance of the skin will always be disrupted in comparison with as you wouldn't have shaved.
Yes, some soaps are more drying than others but this can always be solved by the skincare after the shave.
An alum block after the shave will give me a more drying effect then the most drying soap out there. So if I use one, I follow up with an ASB.

I don't typically look for a soap to be moisturizing, as that's what I use a balm or a moisturizer for, but I take your point to be that you want something that's going to be kind to your face.

I really like the tallow soaps, but there are fewer and fewer - Tabac is a good one if you don't mind a fairly strongly scented soap with a very traditional scent. I find the Irish Moos (which is basically the same soap) to have a more neutral scent, but it only comes in a stick format.

The European Palmolive stick is great - again, stick only.

In terms of soaps that have good reputations for being great shaving soaps that are very nice on the skin, I think that the French shea butter soaps are good choices and are reasonably priced to boot - I really like the linden Provance Sante soap, but the Pre de Provance, Institute Karite and CADE are all excellent.

+1

You may want to also check out one that has coconut oil.

I would add Cella to the list to try, but as echoed above, you may be looking for a moisturizing balm.

you might want to take a look at provence sante.

it's not a tallow soap, but it's exceedingly mild, generates great lather and is very affordable.

it tends to fly under the radar a lot around here, but it's great stuff....

Personally, I like creams. If using a soap, I like Arko stick and Monsavon in the pot. Arko's are relatively easy to find and are incredibly inexpensive ($3> 1 stick) ... Monsavon, to me, has a slightly better overall blend of moisture / slickness / scent. If you can find it -difficult to acquire in these parts - try it; great soap for the money (inexpensive).

Both seem great to me though.

As always, YMMV :a17:

Go for tallow, all of them takes good care of the skin & provide the best foundation for shaving IMHO.
To name a few;
TABAC
Cella
Palmolive
Speick
Valobra

Another vote for L'Occitane's Cade. I've been using it for a couple of years and am always pleased with the results. If you enjoy the scent, pick up the AS which is wonderful.

I also vote for L'Occitane's Cade, great stuff.
If you want even more slickness and moisture, try making superlather by loading your brush with Mama Bears Awakenings before stirring up some green Proraso cream. Really wakes you up also :)

L'Occitane's Cade ASB is available, I got a few samples when I bought my soap. I love it, it's easily the best ASB I have tried. Sadly I think it's way too expensive for everyday use.
