Recommend a brown rice cooker to me

Looking for an automatic rice cooker in a 3 cup size that does brown rice and does it well.

Been using a simple pot type rice cooker for my white and sushi rice and it works great for that but it sux with brown rice (burns it and doe not cook it completely).

So does anyone cook brown rice and if so what automatic rice cooker works to cook brown rice in?
 
We have a good one, but it's white I am afraid...

Generally brown rice we find needs a lot more water than white rice, might be something to try?
 
I don't think you need a different rice cooker for brown rice. I use the same one for white and brown rice. Brown rice does need more water than white, though, as mentioned above. Any rice cooker should work fine.
 
I need something with a brown rice setting that will give me the longer cooking time

My Zojirushi pot type burns and under cooks it no matter how much water I put in.

It makes great white rice though

Another member Talal posted about this here. I also purchased the same model as he did. The benefits were that the inner pot is stainless so it really should never wear out and you will never get bits of teflon in your meal, it is also a steamer, and has the requisite Brown Rice button. My last rice maker burned the rice pretty regularly this one has not yet.

2 cups of basmati brown rice and three cups of water hit the button and go away . . . I've never timed it but I suspect it is close to 90 minutes. I've made a lot of rice of different types in this pot, white, brown, basmati, Himalayan basmati (you want to see the amazing amount of white rice that comes out on very little product in), medium and short grain.

Follow package instructions for rice water ratio.
 
If you have the bottommost tier of rice cooker (the ones with nothing but a mechanical switch) then yes, you may find it mistreats some rice. Anything above that level (generally this translates to anything with fuzzy logic) will probably cook all types of rice just fine. The only trick is that you must use the right amount of water. Ignore the markings on the rice cooker bowl unless you have nothing else to go by. YMMV.

I've been cooking brown rice in my pressure cooker. Would you believe it only takes 15 minutes and turns out perfect? My PC constantly blows my mind.
 
My wife is Korean, so we got ours at a Korean market, and it works great. We cook brown rice in it pretty much exclusively and have never had a problem with it. Of course I cannot remember the name, but I think if you go to some Asian market (like an H Mart if one is nearby) any of the cookers will work fine. Her sister-in-law has a massive one (I think it cooks ten cups - ours is only three).

Also, in Korean culture, the crunchy bottom part (if it happens) of the rice is the most sought after. Sometimes, to make use of leftover rice, we will pan fry it up in cakes.
 
Just to follow up on this and to review what I did end up with now that I have a few months use on it

It was pricy but I can say with complete assurance now that I have put pounds and pounds of rice through it that it was the best "investment" I have made in a kitchen appliance.

It makes perfect brown rice

It makes perfect sushi rice

It makes perfect short grain sticky rice

It makes perfect "fluffy American" white rice

I've tried it on mixed rice (yes it has a setting for mixed) with standard Texas long grain and some Minnesota wild rice (grass seed) and the wild rice is cooked but the white rice is not over cooked. I have no idea how it can do this but it does it perfectly (wild rice needs to cook almost twice as long as standard long grain does).

SO..... Anyone who is thinking about a "high end" rice "machine" should give this brand/model a serious looking over before buying. It does come in larger sizes but for just 2 of us we've found that a 3 cup rice cooker is more than large enough.
 
My wife cooks her white rice, basmati rice and brown rice in a reasonably cheap Panasonic rice cooker. Medium size, enough for 5 but she cooks only for 3, which takes up half the pot.
It is a matter of water to rice ratio - once she determined that, the problem of mushy or 'too dry' cooked rice disappeared.
 
I was going to suggest a fuzzy logic rice cooker. They take a while, but the rice is amazing, no matter what you try in it. Even wild rice like you said ;)

I have a panasonic and love it, I'm glad you like your zojirushi. :thumbup1:

My panasonic is awesome as well. I haven't botched a batch of rice yet, in 3 years of using it.
 
The last rice cooker you will ever buy - The Charleston Rice Steamer.

Seriously easy to use. Rice/water - 1:1 and let it go. Low tech too, so you don't have another bulky unitasker appliance in your kitchen. I use it to steam veggies and potatoes also.
