Razorock Fresco

Today I used Razorock Fresco for the third time and have to say I was extremely disappointed. I didn't do anything different as far as prep and razor (Prep pre shave and Wilkinson Sword DE with Personna Med Prep blade). The shave was ok but I had tremendous razor burn on my neck. This has never happened to me with my other soaps and creams, but has happened all 3 times I've used the Fresco. I don't think its a reaction to the cream, but I'm not quite sure. I've used other Razorock products and never had any problems. Any ideas or suggestions?

I had the same exact experience with it. I PIF'd it. I haven't used a RR product since then. I know I will at some point. I just haven't done so yet.

I had a skin reaction to all of the RR soaps in that line, Fresco and Classic; I assume XXX would have done the same. It was about the same as you describe, and would get worse if I left the soap on too long without rinsing.

Fresco is the only RR soap that my skin had a reaction too, I get a tingly feeling if I leave it on too long. I think the fragrance is too strong.

Almost all other RR products have been fantastic for me, particularly the Artisan/La Famiglia/King of the Castle and XX.

Irritation from the soap and Razor burn or two different things from my perspective. Razor burn most of the time is caused by shaving to closely, or a dull razor blade. If you are sure it is the soap then probably best to stop using it. Just remember even thought Fresco might have given you a problem, that does not mean other RazoRock shave soaps will.

So Tom, are you saying that if you don't get good cushion and protection from a soap that it won't cause razor burn? It seems to reason that blades, aggressive razors, soaps, and technique all play a part in causing or avoiding razor burn. It is a delicate dance fraught with danger and reward.

Pretty sure its the soap. I can feel it when its just sitting here on my face before even attempting to shave. I had the same issue with ToBS lemon lime.

I used RR Classic this morning and had this happen. It was burning before I ever laid the blade to my face. My cheeks were all blotchy and red afterward, so I'm obviously having a reaction to something in there. The RR Artisan soaps have been irritation free for me.

I think his point was more along the lines that the soap is causing skin irritation, not razor burn. Or lack of cushion and slickness combined with poor blade/blade angle/pressure/etc is creating a razorburn effect. For instance if you lather up and your skin feels itchy or hot before you even begin to shave, that's irritation caused by soap, not razorburn. If I'm reading into what he's saying correctly, I may not be.

Ditto. Fresco is a great soap, but I do feel some some burn on my face with it. Only soap I get that with. Must be one of the ingredients.

This is what I was trying to say just did not come out as well as this explanation.

I understand what you are both saying and I would agree with you if I hadn't experienced the exact same thing myself. It didn't feel warm or burn before I started shaving and it was just my neck, which is my most sensitive area for me. No razor burn on my cheeks or chin, just the neck. I have never experienced anything like that with any other soap. So as far as I am concerned, the OP has a valid claim.

Fair enough, I really can't comment on the soap as I haven't used any from the line and I really wouldn't know.

Just to update this thread I started a few days ago. I used the same prep and razor as I did a few days ago. This time, I used the ARKO shave stick instead of the Fresco and no burn or irritation. Just a nice, smooth, shave. So I'm guessing it had something to do with the Fresco. That's too bad, because I really liked the scent.

Sorry to hear that Fresco is causing you irritation, but at least you were able to determine that as the culprit. And hey, it looks like you've got yourself a nice soap to use as trade bait or as a PIF! (hint hint...pick me!) :tongue_sm

Fresco is, I believe, scented with water mint. Some people will probably react to that similarly to how they would react to a mentholated soap (and indeed, water mint would naturally have a small amount of menthol without adding any menthol crystals). I get a very mild cooling sensation from it and a bit of sensitization (my aftershave burns more and longer than normal) however I never get razor burn from it. I find that it is a bit more finicky for water content than most of my other Razorock products (I have classic, cacao, XXX, S. Maria, and Mudder Focker) with only XXX requiring closer attention to water content.

Have you, by chance, ever shaved with Proraso green or white? Did you have a similar reaction?

I have shaved with the Proraso Green and White, also the Omega shave soap as well as the razorock classic and cacao and never had this type of reaction. My dad took it off my hands so we'll see if it bothers him as we'll.
