Rare type of razor

Hello!

I am looking the type of razor that appears in the photo. As you can see, the blade sticks out from the metal, what I find very useful to have more precision when you shave your sideboards.



If you know where I can find it online or if there are other better models for this purpose, please let me know it.

Haha, it belonged to my grandfather so it is quite old (about 70 years). I have tried other models but this one is my favorite for having more precision, so I would like to renew it.

It looks like a tech that had the safety bars snapped off and filed relatively smooth. This was a modification

This is what I think... It is a pity that the only way to get something similar is modifying an existing model.

I'm not an expert but to me it looks like a Tech (choose the model/year) that has lost its safety bar and got equipped with a different handle.

Sort of off topic, but not really. I cannot trim my sideburns with any DE that I own. I can't accurately judge where the edge will cut because the edge of the blade is hidden by the cap. I keep my Gillette Sensor Excel now exclusively for the purposes of keeping my sideburns at the exact right length and the bottoms cut perfectly straight and parallel. I may have to try one of those Parker shavettes or something, because I don't really want to keep buying carts just to trim my sideburns. Plus I feel like I should be able to master edging them with a DE. After all, I should be able to get a cleaner, straighter cut with a single edge DE.

That razor looks like it would be really easy to edge with. Also, if it is a Tech I had no idea Tech's had so much blade exposure. Wow. They have a reputation for being exceedingly mild so I am surprised to see that much blade if that's what this really is. Best of luck finding another one. You could always send it off to be replated, then it would be like brand new and would last another lifetime.

One of these models might make a good donor for a rebuild. It looks like your modified base plate may be aluminum.

mr-razor shows a 1950 Tech Set No32, or this 1940s Featherweight.

We've seen many DE modified in such manner, probably for window scrapping.

A R41, especially a 2011 version, would have a substantial amount of blade projection and feel (I'd think).

There were ads in old newspaper clippings suggesting multipurpose uses for modified DE razors bank in the day.

I have a pristine looking good plated new, which is amazing in its own since they were so thinly good plated. Someone ground the teeth off of one side. Maybe it was for detail work like sideburns..
