rapira plat lux. maybe not for me?

used the voxkhod and really liked it. today i got a nice package in the mail (thank you!!) and the first thing i wanted to do was try the rapira lux i have no idea why but this blade had my attention and there was just something about it i wanted to try. so i did. when i started the shave i literally said WOW the blade was awesome it was almost like shaving with no blade it was so nice and it did a really good job on my thick wire's for hairs. almost a bbs shave without even pushing it. BUT wowowow then came the aftershave.... now know there were no weepers or nicks that i could see but just a few small reddish areas. and man the aftershave was something else after this blade made me jump practically out of my skin :blushing:. and here i am 4-5 hours later and finally had to put a nice layer of cream on my neck and lower cheeks.

i know some blades dont agree at all with some people but this blade was literally only the second blade that when i started shaving with it i said wow it was so nice on my skin. does this sound like the case or maybe could it have been the razor or cream or technique? i rarely have issues shaving though. i used a weishi since i had it here and its sat for a bit and used taylor of old cream with one of my boar brushes. had really nice lather did a nice pre soak of my skin with nice hot water and used a pre shave oil. based on first contacts with skin on this blade i planned on ordering a large amount of them it really was great feeling. the first time i thought about a blade like that was the super iridium.

been able to use almost any blade just some were not close or some were to sharp / not sharp enough etc but never had burn like this...

so what do you think? should i guve it another chance? in a different razor, different cream / soap etc?? or has anyone had this experience from the lux? i only have 2 to play with so i dont want to just waste the blade if i decide to give it another chance. ill be trying the swedish steel coming up as well as the ladas and the super max titanium (also from a pif and THANK YOU AGAIN for that!!!).

I think you should definitely give them another chance. I like these blades about as much as personna and feather. So far, they are my favorite three. Of course there's always other razors to try if this brand still doesn't work for you.

i want to try them again but man my face is on fire tonight.... they were sharp but i did not think they were as sharp as the labs or feathers. can anyone recc a good razor to use these in for next time. maybe them and the weishi dont agree ( i usually dont use it but figured what the heck its been a while). where with the likes of even feather they cut right though with no burn. the feathers just dont last long for me at all but the first shave is really good with them second is my last

Give your face a rest from Rapira Lux's for awhile. If you have other razors, you certainly could give the Lux's a try in them. If that's not working for you, put the Lux's in a drawer to be taken out six months from now and try them again. You may be pleasantly surprised.

It could be something with the blade that's just not for your face, or it could also be that this blade is bringing out weaknesses in your technique. It could be that if you're using mild razors like the Weishi, that you're pressing the blade against your skin to compensate for the razors mildness.

As I recall, I liked the Rapira Lux's, but did not love them. Eventually I sold my bulk purchase on BST.

Good Luck and keep us posted as to what you learn.

The Weishi razor takes some pressure to get a good shave, the angle is small so the temptation is to press this razor down some. I suggest that you try them in another razor like a Gillette Adjustable and see what they do.

I finally got into the 100 count I've had for a while a few days ago. Use one in a Weber polished head on an iKon handle and the next day I was disappointed as there were no whiskers for me to shave.

I was so impressed that I did a second shave with that same combination and got the same results (48 hours with no stubble).

I got in 200 Rapira Swedish Supersteel blades today and used one in a Red Tip. I have a feeling that the Swedish supersteel blades are going to give me the same results that the Platinum Lux blades did, a 48 hour cleanly shaven face.

I did not notice any increase in burn from the after shave like you did, only one close shave.

hmmm thanks yeah even though the burn i did not really even have to shave today there is stubble but very little i am very surprised!! man they were awesome feeling during the shave almost one of the best i have used honestly. i was going to place a decent order for them but i held off i may anyway and if i dont use them ill sell them off. they seem somewhat hard to get and limited in supply

okay well decided since ill be out all day tomm i decided to do a super late night shave before bed. decided to revisit the lux, as well as the supermax diamond titanium. went for a half and half test. the results:

right side got the lux:

used a new blade again just to be sure this was not from it being a second shave on the blade. and surprised this time it was very smooth with only just a small bit if redness at the mid cheek jawline. nothing terrible though not the fire from last time. i went at a bit lighter angle with it and a bit less pressure if any at all. the redness only came in when going atg on the jawbone mid cheek otherwise wtg and xtg were totally irritation free. had i not gone atg in the one area none at all. a couple small weepers in that redish area as well nothing major i think i may have just used a bit to much pressure due to the small bit of tugging atg i think i needed a slightly steeper angle there and next time attack it from a bit different angle or stretch the skin more.

one thing i noticed though with the lux with my hair as thick as small wires was going atg and the small change in angle and pressure had lots of tugging at the area that did get a bit red. ill have to work on this i guess....otherwise i decided to go easy on my neck since i just shaved at 5am. so it left just a tiny bit of very close stubble atg. very minimal.you can just feel it in a few small areas and i decided not to buff it clean.

the left got the diamond titanium:

all i can say is WOW what a comfortable blade. it def for me did not cut as close in many areas as the lux did but its VERY close almost a bbs i mean really close. i can just feel a very small bit more hair if you can really say that. both sides everywhere but a few small places on the neck is bbs. but if you really feel for it the lux did get closer by a very tiny bit.

the titanium caused ZERO irritation and zero weepers was like no blade was even there i only could tell just a tiny bit atg there was just a tin bit of tug as with my hair is pretty normal most times. just not quite as close as the rapira lux did. neck was the same without buffing again the lux was just a bit closer but not as comfortable but still not bad.

the difference --- i used the ej89 barley and arko. last time i used the wieshi and lea.

the supermax diamond titanium is really a very nice blade im going to put a order in for some. while it was not quite as close as some others it was just a very nice blade to use. for me was much nicer than the super plat.
