Ramen noodles: what's your best recipe?

I've decided to give the favorite meal of all poor college students it's own thread, which started with the one about chili (which we all know consists of NO beans).

Here's mine (which I learned from some convicts, but gave it my own twist):

1 package of Ramen

1 can of pink salmon

a few scoops of mayo

slice up a few jalapeno peppers (fresh, not from a can)

add a little Tony Chachere Cajun seasoning

let it chill in the fridge and eat as a sandwich

I watched inmates mixing Ramen with jack mack, Tobasco pepper and crushing up Frito chips (for the salt) and came up with this.

What's your favorite way to eat Ramen?

Not so much those in the cup, but the little square package. And I figured cooking was self-explanatory. But yeah, cook it.

Here are three simple ones:

1. Cut a candy bar (Three Musketeers works great) lengthwise so that you have a top half and a bottom half. Place them on the Ramen square and microwave for a few seconds. The chocolate melts down into the Ramen. Tastes great!

2. Throw away the flavor packet. Crumble the square into very small bits. Cook them in as little water as possible. Pour into a bowl or cup. Add butter and salt to flavor.

3. Crumble the square into a pot of water. Add a little bit from the flavor packet. Add a can of mixed veggies.

Actually, you can cook them with nearly anything and come out fine. I like to add instant rice and some kind of meat to make a larger serving.

I like the can of veggies and the rice idea. Might have to try that this summer on my 30+ mile canoe trip. Taking food that won't spoil and is light-weight is ideal.

This is the best ramen noodle recipe, ever.

1) Empty contents of ramen noodles package, including the flavor packet, into a garbage can.
2) Make anything else.

in college i used to cut up a hot dog and put it into the ramen noodles and then swirl the boiling mixture and drop in an egg to make it like egg drop soup with a hotdog.
finished with a splash of tabasco and half the seasoning packet

Na . . . it is not that bad Jeremy. . . great to have when you need to work through lunch to meet a deadline. It is pretty easy to add some diced carrots and some frozen peas. Depending where you are lunch can look like burger burger burger . . . . nice to have an alternative

Ramen noodles cooked
Pour out excess water
Mix in flavor packet, 1 dash soy sauce,
2 dashes Louisiana hot sauce, 1 slice American cheese (not cheese product)

The only way to cook Ramen (the 10 cent package noodles)

1-2 tbl peanut oil
1/3 onion sliced
1 stock broccoli cut up (tops and 1/2 of the stock)
1 carrot pealed and sliced
1 finger ginger pealed and sliced
4 garlic cloves pealed and sliced
8-10 fresh mushrooms sliced

1 left over cooked chicken breast
1 tbl Thai red curry paste
1 tbl fish sauce
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp lime juice
2 tsp sugar
3 cup water (1 more than recommended)
1 can coconut milk

Put the oil in the pan and get it hot, add vegies to the hot oil, cook until onion clears, add water bring to boil then add ramen noodles and cook at boil for 3 min. Add rest of ingredients (fish sauce, lemon, lime, curry paste, coconut milk, sugar, and chicken). Bring back to a boil and serve.

I do it the same way every time (using whatever vegies I have). It is killer good and very filling for 2 starving people

Oh and I don't uses the package flavor mix (if you can call a bunch of msg that)

1 cook ramen noodles
2 drain all but 1tsp or so of the water & mix in flavor packet
3 place 2 slices of buttered bread on a hot frying pan & cover the bread with a soft cheese ( sharp or cheddar is best )
4 Once the bread is lightly toasted & the cheese melted, place roughly 1/2 of the ramen on one slice
5 Top with the other slice & press firmly to get the cheese to hold the noodles in place.
6 Enjoy with tomato soup ( or alone ).

When done, repeat steps 2-6 with the other half of the ramen.

1 full ramen cake
1/2 flavor packet
Hot sauce to taste ( I use 1-2 tsp of sriracha sauce )
healthy helping of fresh sprouts
small handful of dried shiitake mushrooms. (6-8 bite-sized pieces)

throw shiitake mushrooms into the cold water & bring to a boil.
Add the noodles & 1/2 the flavor packet
Cook noodles normally
Place hot sauce in the bottom of the serving bowl & pour soup on top
top with a healthy helping of fresh bean/alfalfa sprouts

Cook like the directions suggest.... Throw out the flavor packet, drain almost all the water, add a couple of splashes of soy sauce and plenty of sriracha...
Just like Ma use to make....

Interesting, that's so involved and obscure I will have to give it a try. Very curious about how everything works together.

If you're broke & want a more "meaty" ramen soup. Grab a 4pc chicken nugget pack from McDonalds.

Cook chicken ( or oriental ) flavored ramen, with the packet.
While that's cooking, cut 2 nuggets in half & set aside.
Pour the soup into your bowl & top with the 4 chicken pieces.
Add hot sauce/sriracha sauce to your liking.

I can keep these things coming! ( I was a poor college kid for 5 years ). I was also the food hero at college because I took stuff junky college dorm ingredients and made good food.

1 packet of chicken ramen
1 tsp nam prik pao
A shake of white pepper
1 tbsp fish sauce
Lime juice, fresh coriander (cilantro) and finely chopped spring onions to taste
Top with slices of boiled egg and some Sriracha

I don't have a qualified Ramen Recipe per se but I do "create" and improvise with it. I use Ramen as base component to reviving just about any meat and/or veggie leftovers. It's also good for bulking up an otherwise skimping can of soup. My wife cooks Ramen w/o the flavor packet and then adds some marinara for a 5-minute pasta lunch.
