Rainbow, quite possibly the best blade in the universe!

Well guys, I have found my blade. I cant even see how mileage could very with this one!

I recently purchased Rainbow super stainless blades on Ebay for ~$15 per 100 pack. I got them and used them and wow... just wow! These things are wicked sharp and so smooth it is unreal. I would compare them with an Astra SP on sharpness but the smoothness of a teaspoon. I got the best BBS shave of my life a couple times now and I am doing nothing different than I used to on a shave. A WTG, an ATG and minor touch ups in weird hair growth places.

I honestly have not found any blade of this caliber and they are reasonable priced. In 100 packs they are 15 cents each. In 500 packs they are 10 cents each.

These are second only in sharpness to Feathers for me. They are almost identical sharpness to Astra SP. These are night and day smoother than Astra of Feather. They shave as close as Feathers and Astras for me with none of the discomfort.

To give you an idea of how well these worked for me, I just bought 500 of them for about $50 after shipping to the U.S. from Connaught Shaving. Never heard of them before but they had a pretty good volume discount.

Just for some more info, I was using a Red tip Gillette and also a Gillette LC NEW. I will be trying these in all my razors and will let you guys know what I think as I use them in each razor.

Rainbow blades are made by Lord and come from Egypt. You can see their website here. As you can see they make quite a few different brands of blades including the Lords, which are among my favorites.

I've just finished an Asco (orange). 4 amazing shaves. I was very surprised, because they are so cheap.

Wasn't there a thread that lined up all of the individual lord brands with the ACTUAL blade types? I have a hunch there are only four or five.

A lot of guys are just guessing and there hasn't been anybody yet who knew which blade is which. I am curious as well but from the Lord blades I tried till now there are certainly more than 5 different ones. Still I have a hard time believing that all those different blades are really unique.

The only blades that came close in my experience were (1)the (Lord Platinums and the Chromes but I know now they are made from a different stainless steel and (2)the Bigbens and the Lord SS in green/blue packs (Classics). But the Bigbens lasted all for 4 shaves and the green/blues for 6 so those can't be really the same either.

Are the Rainbow's not very close to orange Asco's ?

I find Rainbow, Racer and Asco very similar, all fairly sharp and smooth and comfortable. when I went to do my first bulk buy I chose Racer simply because they are in packs of 10 and I liked the picture on the box more. Out of the Lord sampler I had these were the 3 I found as the best all rounders in all my razors (EJ, Fatip and R41)

As for Lords, I find the Lord Platinum, SC and the Shark SC to be the sharpest and also the most uncomfortable to me.

I like the Lord Super in my EJ and find that very smooth but dislike it in my R41 where it's just way too rough.

I've also used Crown from the same stable and find them comfortable but not as long lasting as the Racer.

I've also got unopened boxes of Lord Cool, Silver Star and Big Ben.

Thanks a lot. By the way, do you know if the oragne ASCO's are the same as them in this box ?

I've only tried the Orange ones but it maybe just a repackage. If so it's a bit of a shame as I liked the orange packs with the pyramid on.

I liked the Asco a lot and if they had been 10 to a pack like the Racer I would probably have bought a 100 of them.

I'll have to test out some of the Lord brands after the 2013 restraint then. Not enough time between now that Jan 1st to get a sampler, test them, and then get a bulk order in. lol

I have some experience with the egyptian blades. I like the Shark SC, LORD SC and orange ASCO's very much, but LORD Platinum Class disappointed me. They are like "too sharp and too rough" for my skin. I look forward to try the Rainbow's.

If the Rainbow's are just like the orange ASCO's, I'm ready for buying 200 right away.

My only reservation with the Rainbow was that they were exclusively used with my EJ. I used the Racer ans Asco with all 3 of my razors and found them the most balanced of the Lord blades - the Lord Platinum, Sc and the Shark SC are a big no-no for me in the R41 - just too uncomfortable but I found the Asco and Racer nice.

It would have been nice to try them in the R41 and/or Fatip but I live in two places and the Rainbows went to Wales.

I've used up all my Asco now as well, in fact the Rainbow and Asco, along with the much more expensive Bolzano, were the first blades where I used all of them in the box - so I must have liked them a lot when you realise I've got Feathers, Astra and Gillettes.

however, I've just switched to Trig blades as a bit of a gamble and I find these just as good as the Asco/Racer/Rainbow and are also 10 to box (which I like as it takes up less room). these are very affordbale in the uk about £6 for 100 so a similar price to the Asco/Racer/Rainbows. I took the gamble on buying 50 as they were cheap and I've found them very similar to the Lord brands that I like and will be ordering more in the new year. Nice combo of smooth and sharp and I've used these in all three razors to check them out. something I try and do now with all my blades before making a purchasing decision.

I've just ordered Rainbow Super Stainless, ASCO Super Stainless (Red & Blue) and BIG BEN Super Stainless samples.
I want to know which is the best for me by my own experience, before I order a 200 load :001_cool:
