Questions regarding first FP

Kind of hijacked the Welcome thread, so I moved this here.

Eric, if you write underhand you should be okay, as your hand will not drag through the ink. Some pens to have a look at are the pilot metropolitan(Gouletpens), the pilot 78G(Ebay) as well as a Nemosine singularity(Xfountainpens), but then these are inexpensive options so it also depends on your budget. make sure you have an allowence for ink as well, one thing you will want to consider is a ink sample pack of a few different colours and brands from gouletpens to get a feel for many different types and colours of ink

Comparison .. black is Pentel Hybrid-gel 0.5mm, dark blue is Pentel rollerball 0.6mm and the pale blue is M sized nib (I understand to that not all M size are same) .. just for orientation.

And I don't think you will get scratching at all from M sized nib

Thanks for the input on this guys! I really like the looks of the Nemosine Singularity as far as a lower budget pen goes. I don't want to break the bank and then find out that FPs just aren't for me...

I'm thinking this pen in either a medium or fine nib (if fine would really affect the drying time) with maybe some Sailor Kiwa-Guro Black. It looks like very dark black ink with a quick drying time from reading the reviews. Hoping this will be compatible with this pen?(pigmented ink v.s. regular fountain pen ink) Please let me know if I'm making a bad decision here. It says it is compatible with both bottled ink and cartridges. What do you think would be better to start out with?

Thanks,

the Nemosine looks good, never used one though, it appears to take an international cartridge and converter, so you shouldn't have to worry about refills. Pilots are good but take a specialty cartridge, so you may not be able to just walk in staples and get one.
Unless you just have to have black ink, I would go with a blue/black. Just my preference though. Some workplaces require only black.

Active Duty, black is mandatory. Read some other articles, I'm still wondering about nib size and ink... Any comments on Sailor Kiwa-Guro v.s Parker Quink?

Quink is available locally and is cheap... the sailor if your ordering anyway is a bit highet quality since its for work I would think you would be fine with the quink

Go with the Quink. Also, check out the Pilot Metropolitan in black with chrome trim. It'll likely fit in a pen slot on your clothing better than the Nemosine. I'd also trust its build quality more than the Nemosine's.

It's only available with a medium nib, but Japanese nibs run smaller than their equivalent western nibs. A pilot M is somewhere between a western F and M. I really like the Metropolitan, and it's one of the few inexpensive pens I have. It's a really nice writer and punches well above its price tag.

Mine came with a converter (ordered it from Staples), so no problem using it with bottled ink.

First, thanks for your service. I have a Nemosine, it is bigger than a ball point, but not too large for your uniform. It has a F nib, drys quickly. Let me know how you like the Pilot. I may have to get one myself!
