Question regarding gold ball handled tech

I have this ball handled tech, no date code, that is very shiny gold, but where the gold has worn off (and other spots as you can see), there is silver color underneath. I just used Scrubbing Bubbles on it, so not scum. Best example is the flange on the base plate:

I thought I would have seen brass, not nickel. Am I wrong or is this a replate?
