I have a deal pending on a great condition Star razor, which has a wedge blade included - and was wondering how the blade is loaded/retained so I can put this oldie back in operation!
If it's like mine, there are spring-loaded fingers on each side that the blade slides under and stops to locate the ends of the cutting edge (like in a typical Gem style SE). There's a spring clip that is looped over the back frame that can then be unhooked to bear against the back of the blade, holding it in place.
On my razor I can use a conventional Gem SE blade in the same place using the same features.
There were many different models and varients of the Star Razor. Some of them do accept a "modern" single edge blade and some don't. Once you get your razor in your hands, I don't think you'll have any trouble figuring out how to mount the blade . . . Chris's discription, above, is quite complete.
The bigger challange, if your razor is one which won't accept a "modern" blade, would be how to hone and strop the wedge blade, assuming the blade with your razor is in good enough condition to be restored.
From the picture the blade looks to be in great shape - and I have just completed stoning a blade for the rolls razor to a fine edge (had to work out nicks and corrosion). Also, wedge blades do show up from time to time on Ebay.
