Question about old Simpson brushes

Hi - was there ever a time when Simpson made brushes with writing on the front of the brush but did not put anything on the back?

I don’t think I have had the pleasure of having true somerset era hair-can you please give me some insight into differences between super grade hair compared to super grade hair from today?

Can't say about the older Super grade as mine were (are) in best hair.
