Pure badger

How "stiff" is pure badger supposed to be? I expected it to be firmer than "best" and to feel the bristles more on my face than say my Superior Super. I even have a 20 year-old drugstore brush that has "Badger" printed on the handle that feels softer and less scratchy than my SR Pure Travel Brush (21 mm knot, 45 mm loft). It's not relatively stiffer or firmer (what I expected), it is STIFF and almost unpleasantly rough. At the edges of the brush, bristles bend out/over like little wires! It feels almost like a hairbrush with longer bristles. Is this the way "pure" is supposed to be or did I just get a bad one? I was lookng foward to a "firmer" brush but this is way out there. Education re: this appreciated.

I think pure badger is supposed to be scratchier, not necessarily stiffer. Stiffness has a lot to do with loft length and density of the knot as well. FI, I have a Muhle PB that is way more flexible than my Simpson chubby 1 in super badger. YMMV.
