What's new

Pumpkin Pie season is here!

It's the Thanksgiving weekend in Canada and that means Pumpkin Pie!
I'm actually a fan of store bought pumpkin pie :scared:.
But never mind that.
Let's discuss pumpkin pie in all it's glory!

I worked at a fancy Dining Room back in my youth.
They served a really good Pumpkin Maple Cheesecake.

Oh man, I want some pie right now.
From A&P (I refuse to call it Metro) and a big dollop of Cool Whip.

I love pumpkin flavored anything. I eat the store bought stuff too and find it quite good. I don't make too many myself, but when I do, I like to make a bourbon whip cream. Good stuff.

When I was in highschool, I had all 4 wisdom teeth out at once. For about a week, I was on a liquid-only diet ... lots of tomato soup and cream of mushroom soup, and for variety tomato & cream of mushroom soup together.

Finally, my mouth had healed enough that I could eat slightly more solid food, and I was able to slurp down a piece of pumpkin pie at a roadside coffee shop. Man was that good.

I was a fan of pumpkin pie then, and am one now.

That crust in the pic took some commitment, very good looking pie.

I bought two pot pies last nigh.t Now I have to go back and get an apple, blueberry cream, and punkin pie thanks for taking my time and money again B and B.

I've been informed that pie will only happen around my house on Monday.
Man I don't like being on a diet.
I want Pie and I want it now!!! :cursing: (however the diet is going very well, so it's not all bad)

Pumpkin pie is good, but a lot better if you make the crust and pumpkin mixture yourself.

I've had too many lousy pies to agree. My MIL is an amazing pie maker. Her apple pie is to die for. I don't like her Pumpkin pie at all.
To me it just has to have a certain spice mixture that no one seems to get right except A&P.

Mind you, I wouldn't kick any pie out of bed for eating crackers.....

Wanting for wisdom
I'll admit to being weak. I can't think of a desert pie I don't like .. . Pumpkin is a particular favorite of mine. Made from the Halloween pumpkin and lots of spice.

pumpkin pie is actually loaded with vitamin A,far more than sweet potato pie.I make mine using a big can of libbys,or 2 small cans of organic trader joes, they both have different flavor, even though they are both pure pumpkin.I add one tall can of non fat evaporated milk,2 eggs, one cup of organic turbinado sugar and the spices.I use no crust,I just ladle them into pyrex pudding dishes and bake at 325 for 45 minutes...low fat,low cholesterol and very nutritious , for those of us who have to "watch it".....

I once make a pumpkin pie in the pumpkin itself, so no crust and it wasn't to bad. I found the recipe in a Frugal Gourmet cookbook. That said I make mine from scratch, much better flavor than canned or store bought crust. I will say this, don't go overboard on the nutmeg:thumbdown
