Pulled the trigger on a futur

I did all my homework and studied pretty well. I hope I get an A+ on my first shave with this beast! This is my first new razor since I started wet shaving. I'm excited!

Without question you have done yourself a definite favor. That razor is a masterpiece of shaving excellence.
With the Futur, its all about the angle. When you get the angle correct, you are treated to an incredibly close and comfortable shave. Get the angle wrong, and you get major league tugging and pulling.
The Futur has a large blade gap, making the angle even more important.
That razor mows thru four days of growth like a hot knife in butter. Learn how to use that razor correctly. Its trail And error, but its not at all difficult.
When you get some experience, don't be afraid to open that razor up. You will get incredibly close shaves with a Derby blade and the Futur on 6. You will get unbelievably close shaves with a Feather on 6. Many people are afraid to run that razor at full throttle, don't be. People use straight razors everyday, with no problems. And they have alot more blade exposure.
Enjoy the Futur, I applaud your decision.

+1

The Futur is a beast. Its heavy, so it throws a lot of weight behind the blade. Its got some great ergonomics with that handle, and the indentation in the middle lends itself perfectly to shaving with The BALANCE POINT Method.

I found that Super Iridium blades work best ... its a shame they were discontinued. PolSilvers are supposed to be close to the SI, but I haven't tried them yet.

Just be aware that the Futur has a reputation for causing a lot of bloodshed ... to the hands. There's something about that head design that causes a lot of injuries when changing blades or making adjustments on the dial. In my case, I picked it up by the wrong end one day and got a deep gash to my thumb. It bled like crazy and took weeks to heal.

Its not a bad design ... just something that new Futur owners need to be made aware of so you don't suffer the same casualties that so many others have reported. Its a great razor, but be real careful when you're changing the blade or adjusting the gap.

It'll surely be a change from my exclusive den of Gillettes. I don't intend to give up easily on this one, I don't have the income to waste 75 dollars. :wink2:

I have some pretty big hands, and I keep a beard so the size shouldn't affect me much since I'm only shaving my neck.

Excellent choice. DFS in two passes on 36hr growth is a winner in my book. Two shaves into this razor and has something other razors don't and that is it's unique design, weight, size, ergonomics, and shave quality.
Enjoy!
