"Protective" coating

Does anyone have a way to remove the protective coating from a gold plated razor? I dont want to use anything too aggressive because I dont want to strip the finish (gold) just that other stuff because it is all scratched up and looks bad.

Acetone should remove the lacquer without harming the gold.

You can probably find nail polish remover that is made with acetone.

There was a post a while back where a guy used rubbing alcohol to sterilize/clean his razor and the lacquer came off.

I agree, acetone will not harm gold and should remove any waxy protective coating. You can also buy acetone at walmart, lowes, etc.
