Proraso Red Shaving Cream

I think it's a very natural scent. Every other sandalwood product I have tried gave me a savage headache but Proraso red is good to go. It's a clean fresh sort of wood fragrance, very slightly sweet. It doesn't smell at all of perfume or incense like the others.

Proraso sandalwood, to my nose, is 'mixed'.
AoS, again to my nose, is pretty 'pure' and 'natural'. Much higher-rent than Proraso.
But, you have to try proraso and others, to decide for yourself!
That's the fun of it!!

I make my own soaps so I have and use straight sandalwood essential oil. I also own and use Proraso red, the Red is enhanced. I can't comment on any other sandalwood scented soaps as I haven't used any others (I have a Razorock sample in the wings). Your best bet to get the scent "signature" of sandalwood is to go to a health food store/apothecary or any other place in your area that sells essential oils and see if they have sandalwood. Pop the top of the tester and see for yourself what pure sandalwood smells like (you'll be surprised). It's also pretty expensive, not as bad as vanilla or some other essential oils but its up there. This would also make it a little less desirable for a big company like Proraso to use straight. I'm not knocking Proraso here, I own, use and live there products but pure essential sandalwood would price Proraso right out if their desired market.

Great comments. I have heard sandalwood essential oil is quite expensive and gives food for thought. My Old Spice bottle doesn't have those lipstick marks. Is yours imported?

For ten bucks, it's a great cream and a killer deal. I'd call the scent mixed, but it's very nice.

it's a great scent. I love Proraso products. One of the few popular brands I still use after 18 months of experience with many soaps. I have the red tube. It's very pronounced, strong, masculine, a nice sandalwood that I prefer over my brother's AOS. (We talk about shaving a lot)

Tried it for the first time this morning. Great latherer and 'woodsy-herbaceous' fragrance. The shea butter methinks is a great ingredient in a shave cream. I feel it is a better performer than the green and I enjoy the green plenty.

Glad to hear you're pleased with your new found friend. The Proraso Red is a special autumn/winter shave cream for me and I like to top it all off with some Myrsol Formula F./Extra

Reminds me of a nice Hot Toddy on a cold autumn day.

How does Proraso Red performance compare to Trumper or Taylor? Or is it just more about cost?

Dave

Never used Trumper, but I get just as good of a shave from Proroso Red (croap) as I do from TOBS. Personally, I MUCH prefer the Proraso sandalwood scent... I find the TOBS one a bit overwhelming.

Don't let the light pricetag on the Proraso fool you- it's as good as either of them. I love the Trumpers coconut and the Taylor avocado, and consider those the two best creams from those producers, yet they still have nothing over the Proraso.

I'm a Proraso Red lover, both scent and performance, as well. Agree that it's performance is right there with TOBS (although I haven't yet tried TOBS Sandalwood -- if the sandalwood scent is even stronger that could be interesting). How natural it is is an interesting question. I have a puck of Mysore Sandalwood Soap, made from genuine sandalwood on location at the sandalwood forest in India. I'd say the Proraso Red smells like a more refined, civilized version.

Proraso Red was the first cream i bought when i started DE shaving this summer. I love the scent and its amazing value for money.

BTW awesome pics Sarimento!
