Proraso Liquid Cream Reformulation(s)?

Last November I posted this tongue-in-cheek thread regarding the fact that I seemed to be going through my second bottle of Proraso Liquid Cream much faster than I went through my first bottle.

For whatever reasons, I've kept all my empty bottles of this AS. I guess it's just because so few things come in quality glass packaging anymore. Anyway, my first empty bottle looks different from my second and third. When finished, almost all of the product was gone leaving clear glass. On my second and third bottles, some of the product stuck to the sides leaving the glass opaque.

I'm wondering if something in the formula was altered in such a way that the thickness of the product was changed, thus accounting for how much was coming out of the bottle when I used it and also how much stuck to the sides.

Aside from how long a bottle lasted and whether or not the product stuck to the sides, the scent and performance was always the same. However, I've noticed a stark difference in scent and performance in my fourth bottle which I recently purchased. To me, Proraso Liquid Cream has always had a very light, smooth, and almost sweet scent. It was always very soothing with no sting at all. My current bottle has a stronger, almost spicy scent, and there is a definite sting when I apply it.

Has Proraso changed something (twice?) since I started using it last year, or is there perhaps an inconsistency between production batches? Or maybe I'm just crazy altogether.

I just checked my new (also second) bottle and the lotion inside is sticking to the sides, which I'm pretty sure my first bottle didn't do, but other then that there's no noticeable difference.

edit: the more i think about it, the new stuff just seems less watered down then the old, maybe were getting more bang for our buck now? The old stuff seemed to pour out crazy fast.

Yeah, I think that's it

But really, that is weird. I've gone through 3 bottles myself and I didn't experience what you describe. But then, the last bottle I bought was over a year ago. Did you buy the last 2 bottles from the same vendor? Maybe it was a bad batch. I haven't heard of any reformulation of it.

edit: all of my 3 bottles looked like your first picture. Some product did stick to the glass, but it was very little, just some patches.

Sorry again. Just a bad day.

From the experience I described in my original thread that I linked to, the opposite would seem to be true. My first bottle lasted me six months while my next two only lasted me four. Perhaps because it is thicker now it doesn't spread out as well and I'm having to use more to get complete coverage. Or maybe it's just that the amount of product that sticks to the sides would have accounted for two more months worth of usage.

Add a bit of pure water or witch hazel to it and shake it up.

Regardless of reformulation, how would you all recommend this product? Would it be a good balm for a alcoholic aftershaver?

Proraso balm is very smooth and mild. Love it. I don't know if I prefer Nivea to Proraso...

I don't know if my post made a whole lot of sense--I meant I normally don't use balms and usually prefer alcohol splashes. I've noticed it's a lot easier to find the Proraso Liquid Cream vs. the Splash...

thanks for the tip

It's the only AS I use. Someday I may try the Proraso splash just for kicks, but the balm works so perfectly for me there's no reason to use anything but.

As far as someone like you who really likes their alcohol, it may be the last thing you'd want to use; unless you're asking because you'd like to try something completely different from what you're used to.

Yup, that's what I understood. I did not try Proraso splash yet, I'm scared of setting my face on fire. I'm going through the Japanese aftershaves at the moment (they have alcohol). However, it's on the list.

Proraso balm is part of my rotation and love it! If I compare price/quality of Nivea vs. Proraso, Nivea is cheaper. I'm only going toward Proraso for the scent. Proraso is an excellent performer but I think Nivea perform just as well!

Thanks again. I may have to pick up some Nivea for my balm as it is easy to find and get the Proraso splash.

Some of the Nivea balms have a bit of alcohol (the "sensitive" doesn't) if you still want it as part of your aftershave.

As for the Proraso balm, if prefer it to the 3 Niveas that I've tried.
