Pretty cool pen with a discount

I gotta stop checking this area of the forum. I end up spending money every time!

Awesome looking pen and very well designed website! Thanks for the heads up!

I got one of each and the Mrs. gets the polished finish.

It's a nice pen. Two magnets. Or three when you count the base has one too.

The one in the pictures below is the blasted finish. It arrived with some marks. Mostly where the cap point sets in the stand. These marks deepened over the past few days with use. No big deal. The end is just about impossible to see and appears seamless when tightly closed.

The ink and pen insert they came with are awful. Too fine and scratchy. The blue one was not dark enough for my taste. The black one was too dry and slow to write I felt as well. So I just grabbed two click pens I had lying around and swapped them in. Neither one was long enough to fit proper. Both were slim enough to fit inside the pen as well as come out the point nicely. I used the spring from one pen to persuade the tip to stay as it looks in the pictures. The other pen my wife took I just dropped a little plastic cut from one of the bits inside the donor pen to space it right.

With my favorite pen tip and ink donated from a disposable I'm happy with the outcome. My desk is metal with a wood-grain veneer. So the pen with its magnets just stay put. It doesn't roll really at all down flat on its side. The cap will stay put, stand up, or float on an angle. It grabs paperclips strong enough to make them jump.

When I received my two pens at home I was concerned as one of the bases lifted with the pen from a wooden table while the other didn't. You can see the magnets in the base and cap which are not really precisely fit. They are recessed flush, but into a much larger void than seems needed. Both look off center. Since its not visible unless you pick up the base and turn it over, its no big deal. But the fact that one pen wouldn't release from its base on a wooden table was annoying. On my steel desk it stays in place and firmly grabs the pen from my fingers on insert though.

No clasp is not something I'm used to. I am adjusting just fine. I find it easier to leave the cap off during the day as well since its deeply threaded and takes several turns to remove. I did see one ugly burr in the threads of the pen. I poked it with a paperclip and it popped off smooth.

The pen doesn't set well in a pocket. In my shirt it's heavy and just short enough to almost drop sideways but not quite. I have to go dig for it though when I need it. In my front pants pocket the magnet was a concern for me near my phone and the aluminum wasn't something I wanted rubbing against the screen. So I only carried it around a few times. It belongs on a desk near the base.

All in all a cool pen and well balanced with a rich finish. It isn't perfectly finished and I imagine it will pick up some character over time being made of aluminum. The threads at both ends are sharp and precise with the entire length of the pen looking almost like a single rod when fully assembled. The shape of the cap perfectly matches the conical recess in the end where it will rest securely magnetically. The whole thing in that configuration feels too long in my hand so I leave the cap in the base when using the pen.

I'd buy it again. I have been looking for a nice pen that would accept the TUL gel pen guts from the click pens I usually use. This ones fits the bill pretty well. If it came as a click pen with a clip, it would be a 9 out of 10. As is I'd rate it a 7. The minimal design and coolness make up for the little flaws I could find. If you didn't know this was a pen at first look you might think it was just an aluminum rod standing in a matching base. You really can hardly see the seams at either end.

No samples since I pitched the ink it came with.

For the modification I just put the spring from inside my click pen that was at the writing end into the back end of the EIMIM pen. It filled the void and presses the tip out nicely.

TUL is Office Max's store brand.

I guess the model I used was GL 1 gel pen.
I've been using them for 4 - 5 years and just can't write with anything else. I've been on the lookout for a pen that will hold the refills since they are non-standard.

It's similar to other gel pens only quick dry and a unique shade of blue I love.

You may like the Render K pen, too. bigidesign.com or designs?

I just messaged the maker of the pen you have and he stated all the things you speak of will be addressed on the next pen. I'm pretty excited to see what it it and will likely back it on kickstarter.

Here's some pics of the base with the magnet I mentioned from the smooth finished pen.

I've blown my pen budget for the time being. So, I'll have to see what's available in July for my birthday. I won't be making any new acquisitions until at least that time. I have a feeling that my wife won't adopt this little beauty since she's notorious for losing sunglasses and pens. I'll just keep it on my end table unless she asks for it.

WOW That's fantastic!

The Pilot Hi-Tec-C refills are awesome! I have been using the Hi-Tec-C pens (0.4mm) since my school days! I used to buy them from my Japanese friend, that was before ebay.

Stationery art.com is cheap place to get them

I just checked in with this dude. Eimim.com. He's got some crazy cool colors on these now and some awesome new pens being made. The new ones take a variety of refills.
