Prefer a brush over the cloth?

I used the brush method today with a DE and must say the results were fantastic. I charged the primer, added some paste & activator, and charged some more. The lather is not as stable as traditional but it sure cuts fast with some more protection than the cloth. I did 3 passes and then a cutting balm oil pass for a complete BBS. I'm thinking if this keeps working I might just ditch the cloth except for travel.

I started with the cloth, and am slowly beginning to prefer my brush... still make a proper mix and use the forms... but like the "old school method method" with the brush more and more...

Well today I used the Art of Shaving soap as my primer to thicken the mix and it worked. I face lathered the mix and it had a nice light pink color and appeared to be dry but was actually moist on the skin. No nicks and a very nice 95% BBS. Not as close as Charles gets but there wasn't much irritation either. There were a few spots I could have gotten closer like the jawline. I will have to work on that blade buffing during the ATG oil pass. I'm sort of mixing traditional with method into an uberlather with Paste, Shaving Soap, and Activator instead of Soap, Cream, and glycerin.

Have you guys ever tried creating the mix without a brush or cloth? just using your hands? I seem to get a thicker mix initially, but loosen it up with a little water. If I need to tighten it up, I'll use more balm. Add a little paste and lay it up. If I need more after that I take it off the primer.

I was also curious to see if anyone has tried a shave soap with the cloth.

I've used Musgo Real in my cloth... worked fine...

This morning I used Bigelow Sensitive Skin Pre-shave oil (on sale for $6 @ Bath and body outlets!) then Conk's Almond puck with the brush...

Was not looking for a method BBS level, but did use the forms, once each, relathering between.

Ended with the Tea Tree Bump preventer/A/S from target, no burn...

I'd say it was a 90%+ shave. It was quick, and this morning I needed quick.
