Portland General Store

Has anyone tried the Portland General Store WHISKEY aftershave? Or know anything about this company? the products sound very inviting.

Haven't tried them...yet. I pointed out that one (and the TOBACCO AS) to my wife and brother-in-law upon seeing them offered last night by West Coast Shaving in the Vendor Corner forum. Maybe I'll get them as a gag gift for Christmas.

Seems like these would be best for home use only. We're not talking about Aqua di Gio, here! "No officer, that's my aftershave. Really." :tongue_sm

That was my thought too, I can't imagine going to work smelling of whiskey being a good thing; unless I was deliberately trying to get fired.:lol:

I'm thinking the tobacco fragrance would be nice after a Mama Bear's breakfast of Bacon, and French Toast. :tongue_sm

That was my thought on Ogallala's Bay Rum and Sandalwood. I like the smell, but if it's going to be that boozey I may as well not even buy it.

I have used her Tabac aftershave slash on and off for a year. It is nice stuff, very soothing and refreshing. The scent great. I think it is the same as the Tobacco scent she currently sells.

I have heard they have more of a medicinal (in a good way) scent and not really alcohol. I'm interested to try them.

I tried the Whiskey After Shave Balm. It smelled like dirt and it was an oil. I used it once and it left my face very, very greasy. I had to wash the stuff off.

My sister gave me a bottle of Whiskey After Shave Splash. Smells excellent, feels great. The term "quenching" comes to mind. After one use, I am very impressed. Looking forward to future uses. Good stuff. :thumbup1:

I have a bottle of the Whiskey. It is more cedar and oak with a hint of smoke. It doesn't smell like whiskey to me. It smells more like an empty (used) whiskey barrel or a rickhouse (where barrels of whiskey are stored). There is a note of whiskey/bourbon, but it's very faint. It pairs well with the medicinal/dry Proraso Sandalwood. You can also sweeten it with a more traditonal sandalwood blend that has notes of cedar, amber, musk, and/or vanilla. Not the best stuff I've ever used, but it's nice and unique.

I have tried several of their products . The aftershave balm was( its been a while since I used it ,the trash saw the last of it) very very oily. Way too oily for anything . The retro theme has been mastered so is the pricing ,not sure about the know-how. My opinion.

I just got a bottle last week and I love this stuff! Great smell, although it does not smell like whiskey to me. Funny thing, I think it would be an even better splash if it did have alcohol. It just does not seem right to have a splash called Whiskey, that does not have alcohol!
